Noob questions on using my PC Monitor for X360
« on: February 26, 2013, 12:45:00 AM »
I wanted to try playing X360 games using my PC monitor "Asus PA238 ProArt" and I noticed a couple of things:

1- Was my Samsung LED slow or is this monitor way too fucking fast? My eyes are tired as hell just from two hours of gaming. Maybe because this isn't designed as a gaming monitor? (there is no game mode).

2- Thanks to the aux input, I can get sound pretty easily on my X360 but no sound coming to my PC. Here is my setup just to clear this up:

Creative speakers to Asus monitor's aux jack
PC to Asus monitor using displayport (AMD 6000 series)
X360 to Asus monitor using HDMI

Maybe I should get Bose 2 since it offers two input? Or a Bluetooth speaker with aux? In any case, I can deal with this easily.

Playing on small monitors really makes the experience much better and easier (fucking HDTVs and Audio Receivers). It also reminds me of my poor days with 20 inch CRTs. :(

looks like there's no connection between your PC and speakers?   display port won't send sound signals, right?

Yeah, nothing at all.

Not a big deal anyway as I won't use my PC monitor. It really makes my eye all strained and fuzzy.

yeah, you'd have to hook the speakers directly, or maybe through HDMI from your vid card?   my nvidia card has a HDMI sound option, though I just hook my speakers directly cause they're analog.

the eye strain might have to do with the refresh rate, maybe?  I feel like I read something about 120hz making your eyes more tired...but I prob have it wrong.

I read quite the opposite; that 120hz is better for eye fatigue.

But this hertz business is only applied to PC gaming, no? As I said, I was playing Xbox 360 and not PC.

I will go to the local shops and test out various 120hz models tomorrow because this IPS monitor, while great as a reading and editing, sucks for anything else. I hate it has like 4 display inputs but they all share the same settings (brightness, contrast).

Check out the monitors they use for for EVO and other esports things...you can't go wrong considering how much those guys sweat response time and all that.  I got an older ASUS that they used at EVO and it's pretty sweet, aside from having cheapo buttons.

Bought a Sammy S23700

EXTREMELY happy about it. Huge upgrade over the Asus I had even though it's inputs ain't as much (just one HDMI and one DVI) plus no USB but fuck if that matters

120Hz is SEX SEX SEX

But now I have a VERY annoying problem, the fucking DVI-D Dual Link cable it came with is very short for my setup

OK, no problem, I bought a longer one

OH NO it can't support 120Hz (I get a fuzzy screen) searching for numerous DVI-D Dual Link cables and finally settled with this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270969702653&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123

It doesn't say anything about 120Hz but fuck I am tired of searching and I am betting it all on this
