Good thing I dropped this series after 2. I'm pretty sure I'd become tired of it by now.

No lie, the ship battle stuff was my favorite thing in AC3 and the only good thing to come out of it. So I'm looking forward to this.

This.

I want an entire game of nothing but AC3 ship battles.

There might be a Native American slave-trade angle to this, as well as piracy. The end of AC3 might be a hint to that. The piracy might surround the lucrative movement of materials between the New World -- but also, whites in America were engaged in the trade of Native American slaves (as well as African) between the Caribbean, Spain and other colonies. That might be an interesting story to tell. No idea how it'd tie into the weird sci-fi story AC has going on though.

I have no idea what this could contribute at all to the mythos. The story is done. I imagine they won't even touch the present day stuff anymore, with the throwaway ending they gave in 3.

As such, I give no fucks for this game. And 3 is pretty dogshit anyway, a good time to jump out.

Is AC3 really that bad? It's right up my alley as far as timeline and settings go. I was gonna wait until it hits $20-25 anyway, but it sounds like folks have a lot of problems with it.

I absolutely hate it. I've spent all my time doing shitty fetch quests and collectables more than actual killing. Connor is a dopey fuck.

Every time I play it, I just yell at my TV at how shit most of it is.

I -especially- hate the naval battles. What a complete waste of resources.

i'm sure it will tackle these difficult issues in a thought-provoking and fresh way.   What if the slave traders were actually evil tentacled space mice who have a base on Mars and dive into human bodies on Earth via a memory transplant machine?  Only Desmond can stop them, but first he must dive into the memories of one of his Italian-American ancestors, build a steam-punk spaceship, get his ass to Mars, and whoop E.T.'s ass.

I would buy this. Gaming needs more B-Movie quality games. Games that are just totally shit-tastic, with ridiculous stories. Like the ending to Conduit 2 on acid.

prediction:  aware that people are fatigued on this, they're gonna position it as completely different somehow.  then the "different" stuff will turn out to not be significant and it'll still be an auto-platforming, shallow combat piece of shit game like the rest of them.

New York and Boston aren't that fun to explore but the combat is much better and the privateer missions are pretty amazing. Also the missions where you take part in American Revolution battles are pretty awesome.

You still have the annoying assassin recruit/trade economy micromanaging. Connor is a bit boring and too seriosu compared to Ezio but I liked the story and the way Desmond's arc ended. It's totally a cliffhanger though so who knows how many more AC games we'll see next generation?

Absolutely awesome - and more AC than AC3 entirely.

I saw another screen shot this morning showing that you can swim underwater.

I dropped Brotherhood after 8 hours, lost interest in the next two (three including that vita thing), but that pirate fantasy got me interested.  I played way too much sid meiers pirates on xbox, psp, and iphone.

Previews are up,find them at your favorite website

Quote
- Kenway is a member of the assassins, but holds most allegence to himself.
- He's fighting a band of rival pirates.
- Giving "the HBO treatment" to pirates.
- No Desmond Miles. You control an employee of Abstergo Entertainment, a subsidary of Aspergo. They're researching the life of Edward Kenway to make...a video game.
- Big focus on Kenway's ship. Can upgrade/customise.
- Spyglass to spot ships and distant islands.
- Open world ship exploration. Metroidvania style world design that requires ship upgrades to better access certain areas.
- Calling it "true open world" and "systemic gameplay". Don't want players to be burdened with loading screens and an abundance of cutscenes as they explore the world.
- Blackbeard, Charles Vane, Calico Jack, Anne Bonny, and Ben Hornigold make an appearance.
- Bartholomew Roberts' assualt on 42 Portuguese ships, and the Spanish Armada wreck, to be shown.
- Open ended assassinations to return.
- Random events in the game world. Example: accidentally stumbling upon an giant enemy ship, then luring that ship into a tropical storm. Boarding the weakened ship to conquer.
- Underwater swimming confirmed.
- Whale hunting
- Cuba, Nassau, tip of Florida, and The Bahamas. Jungles, temples, villaiges, Mayan ruins, underwater shipwrecks, etc.

Best on PS4,though

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag will be getting exclusive features for the PlayStation 4, Ubisoft has announced.

Ubisoft has already revealed that the PlayStation 3 version of Assassin's Creed IV will contain 60 minutes of exclusive content. This content will also be made available for the PlayStation 4 version

Even without the additional features, Guesdon says the PlayStation 4 version of the game will be the best version to play. "You can imagine that we will use [the PlayStation 4's] full capacity and the potential of the console. Just graphically speaking it will be really enhanced. Just think about the lighting, the physics, the ocean simulation that will be experienced."

That stuff all sounds interesting  :(

I wonder how cross-gen stuff will be handled.

If it's on par with the PC version, I'll just go with the PC version (if I get it).  There have been cases where the 'next gen' versions are better than the PC versions, like Soul Reaver and Rayman 2 Dreamcast.  And there were big differences between the Xbox and Xbox 360 versions of some games, like GRAW and and splinter cell double agent.

for starters, it doesn't sound like they're coming out the same time.  360, PS3, and Wii U coming out first.  Later PS4, Durango, PC.  Wii U definitive version for like 15 days :bow2
