On a serious note though, the best items in the game are mostly from the new crafting recipes from the 1.0.7 patch.  I know Frag's monk has several really nice crafted pieces now; I haven't really had the urge to jump back in just yet- I'm kind of waiting for new content.  I'm farmed out.

So, the good news for you people who insist on not using what amounts to a trading interface provided by the game, you can now also have good items and do more than 20k dps.

What level are you?

It really depends on what MP level you're playing in, as well.

If you actually haven't used the AH at all, then 17k is decent for dps.  I wouldn't try moving past MP0 though, or you'll get your face melted off

In Inferno, it's all about scaling the MP levels to where you're still challenged but not getting surprise sex'd by elites.  Try bumping it up incrementally until you're getting pwned, then bump it back down a lower level.

If you really do want to refrain from using the AH, crafting stuff using the 1.0.7 recipes is the best way to get good gear.  You can wait for drops, but farming crafting mats and recipes will be better for you.  Link below will give you the breakdown on how it works if you don't know.

Of course, getting recipes and mats to drop in MP0 is hit or miss, and you can't tackle higher mps until your dps and defenses are better, so, yeah.

My hardcore barb is AH free but only level 14.

Try ratcheting up the monster power... it's generally the only way you're going to get good drops.  If you were on the US servers, I'd give you my WD's gear, her dps is like 76k
