Recently I wanted to branch out into other disciplines and get some striking proficiency added to the mix, but when I moved to Austin my options were limited.

There’s a popular boxing gym, but I wasn’t happy whatsoever with the instruction I received there when I went over and signed up. Bizarrely I was berated for not being a woman, since the trainer I was working with felt that women are natural boxers and men aren’t, and aside from that nonsense I was forced into an awkward boxing stance with my chin pressed against the top of my shoulder at the very limit of my neck rotation, which all seemed pretty ludicrous and not at all credible. There were other trainers, good ones no doubt, but the experience just left me wanting to do what my main interest in striking was: Muay Thai.

Muay Thai’s a complete striking art, the national sport of Thailand, and highly relevant to every aspect of fighting, from self defense to MMA competition. It also has you kicking things until your shins calcify enough to break trees in half.

Couldn’t get a whole lot of Muay Thai done in Austin, though, unless you liked the idea of Xtreme Cardio Kickboxing with a squad of pretty girls. Actually, cardio and pretty girls doesn’t sound half bad, but manly pride's on the line. I booked a flight to Thailand, to live at a camp and train full time for a month on more authentic terms.

This is the journal of my experiences. I hadn’t entirely intended to publish it, especially after my motorbike crash put the whole thing in jeopardy and had me doing little else than training as much as I was able to and changing blood-soaked bandages from reopening wounds, but everything ultimately turned out better than expected. The entries below are all very informal and stream of consciousness and mainly just a personal account, so don’t expect the high drama of my intentionally insane country-hopping European adventure of 2012. I also did not do much hardcore sightseeing, and little to no real photography work; mostly just spur of the moment iPhone shots for some basic context.

I hope you enjoy it all the same.

It's definitely the big man. If he so much as sees a biting critic of him, he'll perma. I haven't seen Bish at the same time as such a post instantly ban someone, but I have with ol' Bore.

It's why GAF is so terrible. You can't say anything about the policies unless you come to this thread (or air them on Twitter/third parties) it's royally stupid. Why can't we have a discussion over it? Oh, because Vee wants his subboards to actually be used despite them failing to gain traction.

To be fair, I've been banned (twice) for similar wording: Go fuck yourself. GAF mods don't like it. I think it's duckroll that doesn't since ducky is the only "old-school" mod besides Bish (who I don't think really cares) left.
