Yup. Every time I try to play bioshock on Steam I have to ask people on my friends list what they see in it and it is "the story" every time. I just can't get into it.

Bioshock is a mediocre FPS from a pure gameplay standpoint. The presentation and the way the gameplay is integrated into the story and what the developers are trying to say is what makes it good. The reaction to the game, however, is incredibly overblown. Spec Ops: The Line is also massively overrated due to the meta angle.

If more games made better attempts at meta commentary both these games would be pretty much forgotten. As of now we're stuck with those two, with The Line being an incredibly stupid, juvenile example and Bioshock being a decent one.

portal(1) was a good effort at that imo. Bioshock is contrived n trite, in addition to being uninteresting as far as enemy encounters and mechanics, etc go. Spec Ops is probably contrived too, but I aint played it.

I also had some issues with the gunplay, the enemy AI, and the level design. Overall I mostly liked the game for the tone/atmosphere and the RPG elements.

The level design is the worst part as it is has no level design. The guns suck but the powers are cool, but the ai sucks.

Infinite seems like it has some nice improvements in the gameplay department... at the very least it looks to have lots of nice wide open spaces to run around in.

Kind of interested in Bioshock Infinite. Big epic games that are at least attempting to do more with thier story get me hyped. I got burned with the last Bioshock, but what can I say? Eh I just don't have any money I want to spend on the game and well there's nothing I want to trade in. Hope it gets somewhat discounted soon.

2006 was kinda eh though. There were some gems but after the orgasm that was 2004/2005 it was a total letdown.

05 is seriously underrated. '98, '01, and '04 get all the love, but that year was insane. I also forgot to include Phantom Dust in my list.

Compare to Bioshock, a corridor shooter with crap shooting, crap ai, and crap level design. At least Shenmue has dozens upon dozens of secrets and something that approaches difficulty in some places (some qte's, the hidden arcade fights in 2).

Shenmue annihilates Bioshock. Bioshock is a shell of a game that deserves.to be less than Dragons Lair status

It doesn't play anything like other FPS games, which is why there was confusion about why they made a multiplayer mode in the second game. I thought it was one of the best games at making you care about what goes on with the other characters and at fleshing out a unique world so the whole "story" argument does seem all right unless somebody has 30 mins to sit down and write a mini-review for you

The biggest problem with DEHR was how painfully underused Yelena Federova (blade runner assassin girl) was. Absolutely rawest looking character in the entire game and she does jack shit.

Kind of misses the point of either focusing on stealth or combat if you're fully upgraded from the start. Although you can do that hacking glitch in the beginning to max out your xp

I don't care. After finishing a game like this. I want the ability to go back and do as much as possible, break as much as possible, and just kick ass much as possible. Not having this is kind of stupid to me.
