I met a few in University.  Some were annoying, some were not.  Did I openly express my annoyance with the ones that were?  I tried not to, at least, as I do with anyone who annoys me unintentionally.  Did I bitch about them later to my equally nerdy friends?  Probably.

There are two possible issues here with the nerd eye-rollin'.  Well, one possible, one for certain.  The possible one is that they are openly expressing their annoyance at someone who is in no way trying to annoy them.  The certain one is that they are equating the entirety of a large message board with an inside group of peers and confiding in them as they would a close friend.  Very unhealthy social behaviour.

Polygon has been a complete joke since the staff is made up of people that love the smell of their own farts and play the victim card or censor any criticism if they can that calls them out on the fact they aren't the "new face of games journalism" as they claim to be.

As it is, Arthur plays the victim card about GAF every chance he can get since someone proved his bet right and hasn't been on the site since except to lurk and badmouth on twitter. As it is, he is constantly wrong with his opinions and when people point out why he can't take it and systematically ignores every "bad comment"/view that doesn't agree with his world-view. I really have no idea how he's an editor and not just a writer.

The caveat here is it only really annoys me if it's done by the social vampire type. Today they like football and are suddenly experts, tomorrow k-pop, then formula1, the next day anime etc etc. It's impossible to have a conversation about these things with these people because they are mostly faking it to be a part of a social circle they think is cool. I'd rather they tell me about their stamp collection if they are actually passionate about it, because hey at least I can learn something.

When I mentioned I was a gamer to aforementioned ex girlfriend who I ruined, she claimed to love call of duty but she slipped up and told me 'i play with the keyboard only, why do i need a mouse'. Now she obviously said this because she liked me and wanted me to like her so I thought it was cute. Once we started dating for serious I couldnt resist firing up CoD on PC and telling her to have at it. Was hilarious how she fumbled around, but mostly cute. Ended up teaching her how to play real non-cod games properly after that.
