Which begs the question: What are you smoking if you think they can develop titles at a rate of Activision/Square/EA/insert big publisher development houses?
I'm not asking them to develop a game every year, don't be ridiculous. I'm asking for at least one actual HD jrpg for this gen. Just one. Plenty of otherr non-AAA studios have gotten out more than one HD game. Grasshopper, Platinum, From Software, GUST, NIS, ect ect. Gust is what? 15 people? They've gotten a cheap jrpg out every year. NIS and IF shit out crap every year. I fail to see why asking for what would basically be a Persona 3/4 level game with nicer graphics is a problem. No one expects a FF or even Tales level production. Hell, I'm all for them re-using assets all over again when it comes to making HD games.
Of course everybody know's Japan has had a hard time this gen and times have changed. Hence I'm not saying "oh well Atlus was able to pop out all these PS2 games whats the problem now?". Because nowhere should anyone expect anything like the PS2 days. Yet, I did expect that before the PS4 came out I would have played Persona 5. That's not crazy. Hence I think Atlus is pretty disappointing as a console gamer. Even ignoring the desire to compare them to their PS2 days, we've only gotten one HD game and it was a nice experimental title. it wasn't a jrpg though, the genre they are known for. I'm not saying they shouldn't make thier handheld games. I'm not saying "SMT4 should have been for PS3 like it said on that list!". Their handheld output should exist and it fits them. But one damn hd jrpg would be nice.
They've done Catherine and that's it. That's kind of pathetic. No one's asking for AAA graphics from an Atlus game. A small scale B-Tier jrpg is all anyone expects and that is not too much to ask for especially when were asking for at least one Persona game, arguably their biggest game series. It's been 5 years since P4, come on!
The next Persona has taken awhile. Catherine was supposed to be a franchisee. They have yet to make actual follow-ups to their seemingly successful franchisees. They've basically been spinning wheels with Persona at this point.
Suffice it to say: Their publishing first and SMT-house second. And frankly, I wouldn't want them any other way. But you were talking about them being handheld only, I corrected you with some good published/developed titles on consoles by them. As it is, Japan has been EXTREMELY behind in publishing or developing many titles for consoles this generation. Expect Atlus and others to either move to mobile or handhelds.
But there was nothing to correct. We weren't talking about published titles, because if we were Himu would have mentioned the Sting handheld rpgs and whatnot. That's why only Atlus developed handheld titles were mentioned, because we're only talking about games they developed. Their personal output. We all know they publish a lot of games, but no one here(except you) is talking about their published titles. We're talking about SMT titles on consoles and handhelds. Their personal output has only been on handhelds and that sucks(for me).
Oh, okay, so you expect them to be Square when they aren't that and haven't ever been that. Okay.
I'm not even sure were you go that. I don't expect them to be like Square and throw tons of money and production values at a AAA Jrpg. I expect them to make small games that have style that takes away from thier limited production values. I mean look at Catherine. It's a small game and yet because of it's style it looks pretty good.
