People dropped the early PS3 exclusives once Uncharted and quality titles actually started to come out.
It was funny to see people champion Heavenly Sword. I mean it's not surprising, it's exactly the type of game to champion last gen. It's got a different aesthetic, non typical lead character, and it's a supposedly AAA game. It's the Sony fanboy kryptonite, the perfect game to go "well at least we don't just have you're bro tastic shooters like Halo and Gears". Yet the game is really terrible. The combat is undeniably awful. It's not smooth, responsive, or fun. It doesn't even look good with levels looking undeatild and having shitty texture work. Also was I supposed to be impressed with the animation, because it's jerky for basically anyone who is'isn't the MC or Andy Serkis. And jesus the story was so run of the mill.
It wasn't a good game then and it certainly isn't now. Yet it sure got championed as something great. Really, Sony is a good company, but they are so lucky to have Naughty Dog. I mean the 1 2 punch of Uncharted 2 and The Last of US is almost enough to hide that on the PS3(and possibly other systems) their big games are really lacking.
Yet, it's not like Uncharted got off to a great start either. The 1st one is kind of a mediocre third person shooter.
Really though, I'm not sure where the Sony exclusives are going to go. GT is an old standby and it does it's job. Killzone is pretty. Resistance is hopefully dead, now this was a mediocre series that must have been kept alive merely for Sony to save face and say "look it's not a failure". I'll say that three is ok a best. Soccom and Zipper are dead. What does Sony Japan have other then small niche downloadable titles that won't move consoles? Then there is Infamous the other success story.
I mean people talk about Sony exclusives like they are the shit, but are they? I mean I love that Sony seems to actually keep supporting their systems unlike MS which seemed that after they could confirm their success went "here be happy with your Halo's, Forza's and Gears". But Gear's was one of gen defining games. Halo is a series that I think has lost some luster, but it still excites some people. What does Sony have? Uncharted? Sure, but I'm not sure that can really last that long. Even Gear's seemed to lose the momentum with a forth game. Grant it, it was a forth game on old hardware while a new Uncharted will have that "new gen" excitement. Still,I'm not quite sure it's some everlasting series like Halo.
And that's the problem, I'm trying to think of these great Sony franchisees and well I can't. None of them seem to have that impact like a Halo or a Gears. The Last of Us sure, but it's not like Halo were people really ate up either the multiplayer or the universe. That's a series where you can pump out games regardless of if they feature the main characters or whatever. You're not going to The Last of US wars and I think after people get a sequel that's hopefully good they will be satisfied.
Killzone has never taken off and at this rate it won't. Graphic showpiece sure, but that won't work in the long haul.
Oh i forgot about God of War. Well it also faces the same problem Gears has. It's played out and a 4th stop gap game did nothing to help. I don't like GoW but, people love it but it really needs a new coat of paint I think. No one seemed to be excited for the 4th one and no one seems to care afterwards.
I really hope Infamous SS works out for them. It's really a series that can lost forever. Open world superhero as a concept will never get old and there's many things you can do with that.
But I mean I don't know about any of you, but this is true to me for most Sony consoles.
PS2-I may own a few Sony published games but it was third parties that made the system. I own SoTC, Wild Arms, the GoW games and some horror game called Extinction. Yet let me tell you I like many others bought that thing for FF, MGS, GTA, and so on.
Which brings me to PS3. I also bought one for MGS and FF. I wonder what made people buy PS3s especially after 08.
PSP-I think the only sony game I have is Loco Roco. Again third party games like Crisis Core.
With PS4 honestly the fact that it's cheaper is the main motivation. If xbone was the same price who knows which one I'd go for first.
