I don't understand why it would be such a bad thing for Nintendo to start producing home console software for other platforms. They're a pretty conservative company in terms of the games they make, which is to say they don't produce a lot of software they know isn't going to make money in an attempt to broaden their userbase's demographic. It's usually 15,000 different Mario brand games, and those sell well enough to justify continued development. With third party software sales being so horrible on Wii U I can't imagine they're collecting much in terms of royalties either.

lol the simple reality is that if you want to make 'gud cluths' at 'gud prices' you need to know the apparel industry and how to make good clothes that hold up as objects of design regardless of pricepoint. kanye pretty obviously can't do either. it's not much more complex than that. his weird fixation on being the modern world's renaissance man is only diluting the stuff he has actual skill at doing.

Can't wait for the big crash, the halt in dumbing down franchises and return of the good old games, where players weren't treated like idiots and games where more varied.

The game industry is getting lazy and playing it safe at a time when people are less willing to put up with it.

Just imagine if publishers and studios were smart. They'd spend a few tens of millions to develop a really tight, polished game. They'd leverage all the essentially-free advertising and marketing potential available in the form of video reviewers, forums like this, etc. They'd sell it for a reasonable price, still make a good profit (especially long-term), and gain loyal fans that would continue buying their products and supporting them.

Fuck, I wish people would stop paying for this crap. All this talk of "vote with your wallets" doesn't mean anything when most of the people buying these things are mindless drones (disguised as consumers) without the awareness of being abused.

I'm all about that entire OP, but this in particular. This is why I couldn't care less about PS+ giving away "free" games in response to putting multiplayer behind a paywall - whom in their young adult to adult life, has enough practical time to dedicate to such a vast cornucopia (Happy Thanksgiving!) of games? FUCK your ephemeral wares, Sony: give me back my right to access multiplayer w/o having to pay you more money. It isn't even that I can't afford it: it's the principle.

Some people here seem to have the time and money to invest in all relevant consoles, own all relevant portables, and a PC, and seem to project opinions without taking their privilege into consideration. I try not to make value judgements regarding people's lives, but even if I could afford all these commodities - there's something to be said about Life Balance. Why would I want to be at home playing games on my console/PC, and then away from home on public transportation playing a portable, or any other public place, when there so many other ways to enrich my life (books, conversation, writing, etc. etc.).

Not trying to be pedantic or a moralist, I'm speaking for myself, here. That's another reason why I see no value in something like PS+. I simply don't value video games enough in my life to see value in the compromise of it (which is crude for the consumer, anyway). I'm also heavily against portable gaming.

I've been saying for years on these boards that the industry needs some serious shrinkage. It's been happening - but at a relatively glacial pace, now that the mobile space has exploded and picked up the slack of traditional firms. I get we're all supposed to be enthusiasts, and I do consider myself to be one, but that doesn't mean that I want that enthusiasm for games to engross my entire life.

So yeah, I'd love it if less games were released YoY, on less platforms. If I had my way: it'd be Nintendo, Sony and Android/iOS in the video game space. That's enough. You can either be willing to accept the fact that you'll be missing out on some quality gems, or build up backlogs and waste money in the sea of stress trying to keep up with this bloated and meandering industry. I know what camp I'm in.

That's all right and probably a good chunk of that buying day one re-enforces the need for the purchase to be justified by others, but I was getting more at the notion that poster and others in the thread were reaching towards that there were too many games for them or others to pay attention to, so there should just be LESS games on fewer platforms rather than just buying what you want and ignoring the rest. About 3 years ago, I stopped buying games at full price unless I was certain to play it immediately.  I had about 30 360/PS3 barely or never played games mostly bought at $60.  There were maybe some gotten at B2G1 sales but still it was a terrible waste. 

I feel so much better about not having wasted money on stuff that's just lying around.

Yeah I have so many full price day one titles that I played for a while,got distracted by another game or real life and never went back too. This past year I've been actually finishing any games I've brought. Which has worked a lot better. As gamers we waste so much money on this stuff.

Even sitting on Steam yesterday and seeing the sales didn't entice me. I just don't have the time to be playing more games at the moment. So seeing something like Skyrim for 3 quid was not enough to pull me in.

It's slightly sad how Steam sales have become almost a drug habit for some gamers it's more about collecting now than actually ever playing these games. A friend of mine was bragging to me how much he'd spent on Steam a couple of grand.

I just don't 'need' it right now, I barely play compared to before and when I do dit down to play something, I end up playing MechWarriors Online. It's not that those games arent fun (but then again, cod has an incredibly annoying level up system and the respawning issues are insane) but still.

Ive watched more blurays on it then I played games. Getting older sucks, when I get home from work ; all I feel like doing is watching flicks, drinking weird german beers or listening to vinyls. It's like gaming feels 'work'.
