Technically aren't you the racist for automatically associating black people with coons?

Thank god that GAF has decent moderation...allows enough stupidity that we can laugh at them, but not too much that we get annoyed by them. Keep up the good work!

I miss the days when Sony dickriders propped UC1 up as one of the best you can get on the system. (because it still is, damn it!)

...Or maybe they're still saying that. I ain't going through that thread.

That minimum wage thread is goddamn ridiculous. I thought GAF was left-leaning.

GAF is largely faux-progressive.  The mask comes off as soon as anything having to do with "i gots mine" comes up.

Well it's pretty too for most of American society too.

Supporting policies helping those less fortunate than you, who statistically have it harder than your parents or even your (white) grandparents did? Fuck that , their value as a human being isn't as high as mine and my $14 an hour salary.

I'm all for a living wage ($15 minimum is likely to happen here in Seattle), but my questions are about those people who have college degrees and end up making the same as someone flipping burgers. There is something wrong with that.

That's why I oppose the minimum wage. Time to end the racist and protectionist policies of the past and allow the less fortunate to more easily compete with trust fund kids and GameStop employees.

My mom would have probably killed me for just talkingback to her as a kid; I never hit her, and if I did I knew for sure that I'd be killed. No questions asked, dead. She wouldn't wait to take me home to face my dad's wrath. If anything she'd take me to the closest middle school, execute me in the yard, and say "you see what happens, you see what happens?!"

That kid has no shot at life.

I don't disagree non-"dead end jobs" should pay higher than a living wage, but the mindset of "Oh, it's a dead-end job. You should expect to be paid crap and possibly below minimum wage" really enrages me. There's states out there that do not have minimum wage laws, which means those dead-end jobs can pay lower than the minimum wage and get away with it. How the hell is that a good thing in this new economy?

It's not a good thing. However, why should someone who went to college to become a social worker and now has student loans end up making the same as someone working at McDonalds? That discourages people from higher education.

Basically, I don't think the solution is merely raising the minimum wage to $15/hour. I don't have the answers but more needs to be done.

I think the $15 minimum wage will pass here in Seattle in 2014, and I think that's great. A lot of people who work service jobs here in the city can't afford to live in the city which is wrong. There's just more that needs to be done before the problems are solved.

And this is a bad thing...  how? Tuition is skyrocketing, and the education system (not just college, but public education) is crumbling/"turning into a business to pump out degrees" in the US. There has to be significant reforms in the job/cost of living/education systems all around.

Frankly, on education: I, personally, feel that not everyone needs a college degree to have a decent/live-able life. At the same time, I feel college isn't for everyone. Those that go for the sake of partying over the education would better benefit from having a lower-paying but still livable job over going into debt for a piece of paper that pays them (last I checked) $2K to 10K more than a high-school diploma.

I agree with everything you're saying. I said more needs to be done (ie. reforms). College isn't for everyone, I think there needs to be more emphasis on trades and other professions that don't force you to go college to get a good paying job. Working in the high schools, I feel like all students hear is "go to college!" which leaves a lot of kids uncertain of where to go and what to do.

However, there are good jobs that require undergraduate and/or graduate degrees that do a lot of good for society and don't pay much. I don't think those people went to college just to party and rack up debt. Those counselors and social workers and support providers should see a pay increase as well.

Why don't they just peg the minimum wage to inflation and be done with it? Should've happened when it was first introduced.

The middle wage debate really tends to highlight that those most vocal about "business/economic understanding" don't know anything. If you pay people more money, they have more money to spend. If people have more money to spend, they buy more stuff. If people have more stuff to buy, businesses can hire more people to handle demand.

That's basic shit. And even if companies increase costs to help deal with paying higher wages initially...again, people will have more money to spend anyway.

Battlefield 3's gunplay on consoles or PC is kinda hit and miss. I think BF4 kinda fixes it, but the netcode gets in the way. I will give DICE props with BF3 for having infantry movement feel "right" and being able to vault over things and see your soldier vaulting over it added a good element of "depth" if you get what I mean.

Only problem is (and something they didn't fix in BF4) that vaulting over something may/may not work and you may get stuck on things destroyed that you can't vault over/walk over. Paracel Storm's trees being blown away and a small stump in the ground haults your progress is  :lol :yuck
