At least when I think of this, it doesn't mean 90% of things are objectively shit, but 90% of X doesn't hold any interest to me. That's the internet.  You have to make a decision: you are either for something or you are against it.  Once you made that decision, it's then time to crank your convictions up to 11.  A game isn't just good, it is the game of the forever.  A game isn't mediocre, it is fucking shit and anyone who likes it is shit.  Then it's time to defend your convictions on the internet, where your opinion must be heard.

It isn't hard. You talk to seasoned anime vets who are friends. It takes years to develop a taste for anime and learning how to filter through the shit. Most anime fans have terrible taste and will suggest stuff that doesn't even nearly compliment your tastes. That's where friends with taste come in. I trust only a few select people when it comes to new anime.

These days, I automatically ignore anything loli or moe. I don't even know they make moe stuff because it disappears from my mind.

I belive you can tell anime by its "cover" and usually that leads to anime I like. There's been a few solid anime that I would missed based on thier cover such as Fate Zero and Maddoka, but those titles got good word of mouth from people I trust. Things like Redline, Fujiko Mine, and Kill La Kill looked straight up my alley and they were.
