i know it's probably been raked over a million times, but a little more communication couldn't hurt. a stickied semi regular state of the forum update which outlined some of the shit you're going to be loosening up/cracking down on would go a long way. treat it like a balance patch.
Well, I do think it needs to be noted that just due to the size of the place, it's going to be difficult to really delineate clearly strengths and weaknesses. From a mod standpoint, we aren't required to read or moderate anything (again, because it's a voluntary thing), so it's not like everyone on board is going to be clearly on the same page because not everyone is familiar with all the hot button issues. And further, you have plenty of issues where obviously people's perspective colors how they think we are cracking down. I think every fanbase thinks they have/have had an unfair shake in terms of where we focus our attention.
And that leads to things like who we are perceived on the political correctness front. At any given point, social issues topic will arise, and there'll be a number of people that are scratching their heads wondering why we're allowing ignorant/bigoted views to go unchecked, while others think we're a beyond PC hugbox where anything about the most ardently liberal posts are insta-banned. In terms of both introspection and weighing outside critique, it's not an easy balancing act.
So, the best thing I think we can do is just try to do our best and not get overly invested in it all. As for something like a "State of the Forum" address, that'd only be something for EviLore to do. I mean, I guess I could suggest it, but I'm not sure if he'd consider it all that fruitful of an endeavor. It's certainly not going to get done by the mods. Who would do it? Now, I know that you don't really know how the behind the scenes stuff goes, but how do you envision such a thing working? "Nirolak: I need your notes on buiness threads. TDM, I need a writeup on some of those OT community threads. Cornballer, give me a report on TV threads. besada, I need to know what's going on with Xbone threads., etc."
Yeah, that'd be crazy.
