I bought the PS3 version when it was $9.99 at Amazon. Never used the free 30 day trial. I hate MMOs, but it looks like old school fantasy Final Fantasy. One of these days I'll try it out.

I'm not exactly sure what you're getting at with that remark. I can tell in advance that there's probably some semantic-based distinction that ultimately is uninteresting to me, but I'm just curious about your fatigue in regards to why people would bring it up in relation to Final Fantasy. Not that I fancy myself the biggest Final Fantasy expert on the planet, but if the game was called Final Fantasy: Bravely Default, I wouldn't bat an eyelash, as it very much "feels" like a Final Fantasy game (whatever that means anyway, as I don't care to define it).

14 is not a terrible game, but it sure aint a great one. The world aint even great with all of it being loaded zones and invisible walls galore. It's quests are brainless and boring, even the main story.

It's pretty, the dungeons are fun, and the boss battles are great. Yet to get to those you have to slog through pretty boring content.

Also I feel bad for anyone playing this on PS3. It is awful on it.

BD is....an ok game. Not the 2nd coming of Christ though.

It has a lot of elements of older FF. But it's still not FF and it has a lot of unique things that make it clearly distinct from FF. The main things that make it similar to FF are the job names, abilities, and item names. The structure, battle system, and quest system are notably not particularly FF-ish. I think peoples comparisons of FF to BD kind of tarnish BD's name a bit, if you catch my meaning. It's a perfectly unique and great game in its own right. But no, it's not the Final Fantasy that people think it is. Basically, I want certain things from FF that I don't get with BD. BD is great, but it's not FF. I get and like completely different things between BD and FF.

I kind of understand what you're getting at, but at the same time it strikes me as a rather odd argument to make in regards to a series that can vary wildly from one mainline entry to the next. Like I said, I don't fancy myself as a Final Fantasy superfan by any means, so I'm more than happy to defer to you on this one. But to me, the main thing that makes it different are: the social features, the Brave/Default turn-based system as opposed to ATB (although obviously, not every FF game uses ATB), and... that's about it. Otherwise, it feels pretty much like an old school Final Fantasy game to me.

I can see that. I didn't follow the GAF thread very closely, but the chatter I noticed about it seemed to result in people being really receptive towards it in the early going, and less so as the game went on. I was about 13 hours in and on Chapter 2 or 3, and I was enjoying it. However, I do think it's clear that the game benefits immensely from both the Final Fantasy series and the JRPG genre as a whole being in a state of immense decline right now.

It's true. Think about this, these poor people have to go their entire lives without achieving sexual pleasure with their desired partners, all because of some arbitrary morals decided by "society" and if they try to be like any other human and do so they're thrown in jail or worse. They're hounded out of areas by mobs, put on lists, wear the equivalent of a scarlet letter for life and so on. In a more tolerant future we'll recognize them for the true victims they are and start discussing reparations.
