Eh, I can see their point to a degree. I like to just get my shit and go, I'd rather not have my ass kissed. It's forced and insincere most of the time. It doesn't fill me with rage, but I could live without it.

And to be fair I don't see much rage in that thread but I guess characterizing it in that way makes it more fun. It's one of those situations where the people reacting to the "over-reacting" are the more over the top of the two. Yeah, that dude is pretty much heading off to work on the most played game in the world, but also one of the lowest profile games ito main stream media coverage. It's weird to me that gaming 'journalists' want mostly nothing to do with the worlds biggest genre and games.

I mean even if they get an interview with valve people about Dota2 you can sense this 'journalist' taco running through the motions asking cookie cutter questions only to end off the interview with a sneaked in and  enthusiastic "SO WHERE'S HALF LIFE 3??!" What's worse is the audience eats it up and if that question was answered even remotely interestingly, 1000 new articles about "OMGZ HALF LIFE 3" will pop up, ignoring everything the guy said about Dota2.

Just spit balling here.

1. Technologically dated - Adobe Air lol.
2. Game is hard - and only gets harder as you get older (late 20s in League is late 90s irl). Watch Shoemaker play Dota 2 if you don't believe me.
3. #ESPORTS - if games are art how can they be sports too?
4. Riot - Builds a lot of their media reach themselves with stuff like LCS. I imagine it rubs an industry the wrong way when they do this.
5. No new iterations - it's been the same game (in form, functionally it's ofc. changed a lot over the years), just with new characters added to it.
