the thing is, you could really make a nice dent in cleaning up rpg threads if you just permed five or six of the ringleaders who make the creepiest posts most frequently, everyone knows who they are. it would be like that operation they did where they permed several of the longtime nintendo zealots at once (and maybe some sony ones too?) who were mucking up sales threads the most. get rid of the worst of the worst and make it clear why they're gone and maybe the others will be less brazen and keep the pervo shit to themselves.
while that sounds like an idealistic solution, given that you have threads like these:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=826765http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=827134 (waifu discussion)
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=825766 (with
people complaining about censorship)
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=822307...or threads where you wouldn't expect discussion about character design looking cute or attractive like ys threads, pokemon threads, and fire emblem threads but they have them anyway...
...you start to realize that isn't only 5-6 people. it's
a lot of people, and since maybe a minority are open about it and post often about it, a lot of other people think it's acceptable (or would pick up the slack of those ringleaders aren't there). it sucks. i barely post on gaf as it is anymore because i'm tired of going into threads i used to frequent a lot or would like to frequent, but realizing you can't keep up with the discussion anymore since it's centered on fanart, discussion about characters' breasts or range of attractiveness, focus on voice actors, etc. talk about the game part of the game and you'll probably have a few responses, but that's about it. new batches of fans seem to come in all the time, and seem to focus on the character/skeevy side of things, and you end up being squeezed out of the discussions altogether because it's not stuff you're interested in talking about. it's only rare you find someone who's interested in discussing the games as-is. a lot of that isn't helped by the fact that a lot of the games seem to include content that steers conversation into a skeevy direction.
i don't think banning the ringleaders in the conversation will help if there are other people who'll pick up the slack. even if a lot of the nintendo/sony zealots got permed back then, there are a lot of nintendo/sony zealots who ended up picking up the slack years later during this new console period in sales-age and sales-related threads for their favorite companies, anyway.
