Obviously it is a two-day street, I'm not saying most peeps on GAF are genuine, and I'm certainly not saying it is free from creeps - because it is not (nor is this, or any other forum.)

But there are plenty of folks who are decent folk once you get outside of the whole forum game going on, in communities or off-site gathering places like IRC and tinychat.
