Someone's prepared:

Why do you think he's been growing that beard and getting everyone to stockpile games on Steam?

FALSE idols?  When the GoDDes5 comes off the line at Foxconn we'll who's worshipping the false idol.   I don't know what she'll do exactly, but it'll be something for sure!

Bring it on. I came to the realization over the weekend while playing FF9 that I don't want to play new games, I just want to replay all shit I played in high school, most of which I haven't even looked at since then. In other news I have a renewed appreciation for Nintendo fans!

Time to finish up FF9, play some Breath of Fire IV, bitch on gaf about the vita not supporting Spyro, play Ridge Racer Type 4, more bitching about Spyro (no seriously fuck you sony)... I feel like I'm set for awhile

I know people who won't talk to each other over a wysiwyg argument 8 years ago.

Yeah, tabletop people are nuts.

I remember playing games of Diplomacy at university where my friends didn't speak to each other for weeks after because of what transpired during the game.

For fucks sakes, I caught my boss cheating at Catan once.  CATAN.  That's like entry level table top gaming and he's so f'n ruthless he cheated at it.

We had games of Power Grid that caused weeks long difficulties at work.

I remember playing games of Diplomacy at university where my friends didn't speak to each other for weeks after because of what transpired during the game.

I had what was called an "introductory" game of Diplomacy my first year in the dorms at university. Halfway though the game, with no preamble, the game organizer pulled a stunt which knocked me out if the game and set him up for victory.

He felt really clever, but none of us were willing to play the game again.  I still think his long term planning was faulty.

Just gonna put this here:

http://www.polygon.com/2013/3/21/4131702/tencents-epic-games-stock-acquisition

Wheeeeeooooooohhhhh:
Quote
In the months following the acquisition of stock for $330 million, a number of high profile people left Epic Games. The month after the acquisition was finalized, Gears of War producer Rod Fergusson left Epic Games to work on Irrational Games' Bioshock Infinite and three leads at Bulletstorm developer People Can Fly, which was acquired by Epic in 2007, left. In October, Cliff Bleszinski left the studio after two decades with the company. In December, the president of Epic Games, Mike Capps, announced that he was retiring from his role at the company and "transitioning into an advisory role as well as remaining on the Epic board of directors." Earlier this month, Capps gave up that connection with the company too, saying he is no longer affiliated with Epic.

Seems like there's probably a massive culture clash happening post-acquisition.

Tencent hit a grand slam when they bought Riot back in 2011, although you could tell that their new sugar daddy had a negative effect on pricing.  The rate at which you earned in game currency was cut by about 20% and they raised the prices on all new characters to the maximum amount of game currency, whereas they used to have different prices.

After that, did they make more money, or less?

I don't have access to Riot's financials, but League blew up in the past 18 months.  So I can assume they're making a ton more money now.

No one is safe from the coming tide:

Zynga today announced that it's laying off 520 employees, with the cuts affecting 18 percent of its workforce around the world. The company is also shuttering offices in Los Angeles, New York, and Dallas as part of what it's calling "substantial cost reductions." These reductions are expected to be complete by August. Describing today as "a hard day for Zynga" CEO Mark Pincus said, "I think we all know this is necessary to move forward. The scale that served us so well in building and delivering the leading social gaming service on the web is now making it hard to successfully lead across mobile and multiplatform, which is where social games are going to be played."
