... or any social media site for that matter.

I'm talking about all those sweet, heartwarming, and uplifting stories and photos you see every day retweeted and shared. The ones that any internet savvy person, who's been around for a while, know are unverifiable and could be easily fabricated (or at the very least grossly exaggerated).

For instance, I just saw this photo...

And went "awwww", but after three seconds I was like "heeeey..."

Do you guys think that 90% of these things are made up too, like how my mistrustful mind leads me to believe?

For the record, I'm not looking for validation or to encourage more hate, quite the opposite; I'm wondering if I'm the sick one here, and should have more faith in humanity.

What's the sticker on the back? My hubby is currently serving overseas or something?

That's what I'm assuming. And the more I thought about it, the more I believe it's possible considering the issue. But I don't wanna limit the scope of the discussion to that image only, as I'm talking generally.

You're not awful. Plenty of "feel good" stories aren't true or some things are exaggerated. When I first saw the image I wondered how someone could actually know about him being overseas or how they had a envelope ready. We probably wouldn't be so quick to find what might be wrong if some people haven't faked events.

I'm probably the last person that can claim to give any useful input (I've been called a misanthrope to my face before), but I would say that's just healthy skepticism. What gives you pause is probably the frequency to which you can be exposed to them on social networks. It's just like bad news on TV. The world looks a lot more fucked up, with pedophiles and murderers around every corner if viewed through that lens.

Prob lots of it is fake. But some real stuff too of course. Just a nice mix. Depending on your mood you can believe or not.

For all the probably fake stories, there are most likely real similar stories out there that don't get/want coverage.

That said, the spamming of this shit by people gets annoying

They're fake 99.9% of the time, it's Facebook. These people are running "pages" to get visitors and hits. Why? So they can get their page bought by third parties who want those likes and shares. There was a reddit ama from the "i fucking love science" guy who explained it.

let's make some up and post them

the rule is, it's got to obviously be fake in some subtle way, but just believable enough that you snag some people into reposting

i guess we could make up a page for it to seem more official, something really cheesy like "The Miracle of Inspiration" or whatever

Unless it's something that happened specifically to you, don't bother posting it because I won't read and I don't care.

Yup, that has been my reasoning. Although I wasn't aware third parties were so hungry to snatch up established pages, but it makes so much sense. And it makes taking Oscar's advice a lot harder.

I'm so fucking down. We can have Borys hold a sign that says if gets 1000000 likes he'll be able to buy a console or immigrate, or something.

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Miraculous-Inspirations/437192319703037#

an easy way to do it is to copy some of the ones already out there and just change certain things about them, dropping in something outlandish somewhere in the story

After making this I don't think it's subtle enough.  :-\ It's hard to find stories short enough to fit into images.

facebook feed inspiration stories are 90% misquotes (or made up), stupid viral pray for this baby* , or lame cat feel good platitudes. I delete people for these.

However, trollspriation quotes are incredible and I support them fully.

Fucking stupid bullshit that tries to artificially force an emotion out of you.   Especially the "incredible note" pics on Reddit.   This might be one of the most rote ways you can conjure an emotion.  The people who willingly suspend their disbelief for them (or actually believe them) are probably the most insufferable humans on this gay earth.   <3

wow, these are awful

There is a woman who I used to mess around with who posts shit like this all the time.

Recently this guy she met on holiday. Must have been cheating on her as his disappeared probably been deported back to Africa and she's been posting quotes pics from a 'fuck the cheaters' group.

Old me would have seen this as an opportunity to get another easy lay but she's not worth the hassle. Despite her having massive tits and letting me creampie her multiple times.

I wonder if men have a subconscious, primal need to see that their precious seed made it through the door at least. Like lions that kill the cubs of their predecessor so they can get with the lioness sooner. Would explain porn close-ups, as well.
