This looks exactly like Bastion.

I put a few hours in the mobile version and the game is pretty boring.

I put in a decent amount of time on the iPad version of bastion but the combat grew so dull I didn't finish. Hope this game turns out a bit more fun to actually play

I like the artstyle of Bastion but the gameplay of the original game was so boring that I definetely won't be picking up this one, unless it's part of a good indie game bundle.

Looks cool but it makes me want to finally install Bastion and play it so I'm not burned out on the gameplay/aesthetic when this rolls around. They look very similar

There were some nice things about Bastion, but the combat —which comprises 90% of what you do in this game— kind of bored me to tears, tbh.

After a few hours of bastion you're left asking yourself: is this it?

What problem did you have with the combat? Reminded me of Secret of Mana but with tech trees.

Bastion is okay. For me it was about expectations. When that game came out the critical press when nuts over it so when I played it, I couldn't help but think it was going to be some truly magical experience. After I played it, I was confused about all the hullabaloo which probably colored my thoughts on the game. If it was just some game I played on my own without coming into it with outside expectations, I probably would have enjoyed it more.

The combat did nothing for me, neither did the VO. Had its moment(s) towards the end.

This looks really well-produced; I'll be a little salty if they get the same "indie darling" treatment again -- didn't they use a ton of outsourcing to make Bastion?

who cares how the shit is made

That furry metroidvania released a while back didn't play any better just cus it was made by one single dude over the course of a million years, did it?

Indie doesn't have to mean "crappy," but it should mean "not drawing on massive company resources."

AAA indie?

I think the future will bring lots of not really indie developers pretending to be indie because it's cool to be indie.

Bastion is one of the most boring games I've ever played. I grew tired of the Trial version in 5 minutes

yeah, I felt it was incredibly slow moving. Didn't really care for the combat either, so I never ended up finishing it. I was shootin orks in Space Marine at the same time, so it was doomed anyway.

Played for about an hour this evening.

So the good and the bad.

The bad is, it has the same artsy style and tone that bastion had. Which is not to say that I'm necessarily against artsy in all cases. It's just I don't like the way these guys go about it. It has the same art style as bastion with a tile swap. It has the same style narrator who pieces together the game for you the more you play.

As far as the good, I like the actual combat more here than in bastion. This uses an RPG style ability combat system where you can pause time, plan out your strategy, and then resume time, and your actions are played out all at once. You can also upgrade and combine the abilities. It's fun enough an hour in.

So I'll probably keep playing it mainly because I enjoy the combat versus the style and tone.

It's getting great reviews everywhere. Not surprising since everyone wants it to be "art", but it's good to hear that the combat is actually enjoyable this time around. I'll get it in a Steam sale or something.

Very suspicious of the scores after my disappointment with Bastion, although it's nice to hear that the gameplay is improved over the Bastion. I liked the graphics, didn't care for the narrator and hated the gameplay so I won't buy this for the near future. Kinda wonder what makes people love this games so much.

Just regarding Bastion the art is nice in a technical way, they have obviously talented artists, but it's not like it's overy fascinating. The narration is obscure and it never feels like an interesting story is coming. Gameplay is braindead. Too me, Bastion failed both as an artsy games and as a "normal" game.

Didn't play very deep into Bastion, but I got the same sense. There wasn't much for me to bite onto except high production value.

Transistor has a nicer aesthetic, but I'm a bit apprehensive due to the mechanics and narrative bits I saw in Bastion. Give it a whirl at €10ish I figure.

Didn't play Bastion, but I agree with Stoney on the game play being OK.  I can see some issues occurring with the way some enemies just rush you and 'trap' you in beams.  This is clearly a game that is selling itself on the art/atmosphere/music over its game play, which I typically don't like, but in this game's case I'm willing to overlook it and play since I like the aesthetics a lot.

Thought people were popping boners for Bastion when it came out.   ???
