PS3(All models) Backward Compatibility Returns

if you have CFW PS3

So over the last week or so the file encryption on the PS2 classics emulator has been completely reverse-engineered. You can now switch the ISO of any PS2 classic with that of any other PS2 game if you have a PS3 with CFW. Compatibility should be pretty high.

Here is some pics of Persona 4 running on my PS3 slim I just took:

No audio/video glitches, runs fullspeed.

Process is a little complex atm. I expect this to be mind-numbingly simple within a week though.

FFX apparently works fine too.

Apparently you can't install CFW on newer models. Haven't tried it myself, just reposting what I read on GAF.

so is Sony just sitting on a good enough PS2 emu without activiating it for all PS3's, or was there some dark magick wizardry involved in this.

either way, Sony can go sit on a cactus for holding back any backwards compat they're not releasing.

Sony wants you to re-buy your games.  Even supported games can't be run off the DVD and I have doubts that a customized emulator was made specially for Dora's Big Birthday Adventure.

You can do the same with Wii Virtual Console, PS1 games on PSP, and PSP on the Vita.  Back when the 360 came out you could do PS1-esque swap tricks to run unsupported Xbox games.  I remember Mercenaries had crazy glitches to the point of becoming unplayable, which might explain why it wasn't supported.

Of course they are. They did it for PSP too, as you may have seen. They want dat loot. But I imagine they also have to QA half this shit, and do lots of licensing, etc...

Would licencing be a thing here? They are emulating their machine (which im assuming they have rights to tech wise)

They could have some kind of agreement with other publishers preventing them from enabling full PS2 BC, but most likely it's just greed. It's stupid because I don't think it would affect sales of PS2 Classics all that much. If they're only $5-10 I might as well buy a digital version instead of trying to track down a used disc.

What for? They haven't removed any functionality that was promised to begin with. The people who bought the non-BC PS3 models knew what they were purchasing.

Just report them to the Better Business Bureau and write a completely bonkers email about the situation to the Consumerist, like everybody else.
