Girls weren't really put on a pedestal on the first couple forums I posted on. I didn't really experience pure unadulterated simping until I started lurking/posting on GAF almost a decade ago. Before then I was mainly on smaller forums similar to this where folks were cool with each other.

I don't give a shit about girls on the internet. Girls = people. I don't treat them with a soft hand, lick their boots, etc. I don't blame a lot of girls for being really low-key with their internet presence, not necessarily for fear of being ganged up on or treated like shit, but for creepers slinging transparent pm's and floppy iDicks their way. I guess a lot of people hear stories about couples who met on message boards and hit it off (hey, happened with CG and Etoilate, Cloud and Jarosh, Devo and Timedog), and, with nothing else going on in their life, figures it doesn't hurt to try. (though Etoilate/Jarosh/Timedog seem like the kind of people who wouldn't have trouble meeting girls in real life, to begin with)

The RPG threads tend to have a very high presence of women I've noticed. But that's not why I post in them mainly, I swear

I guess I can kind of see that. I don't know, I think my innate cynicism precludes me from thinking that online flirtation is anything but embarrassing. Also, I can't allow for any sort of suspension of disbelief. I'm married, have a full-time job, and a kid, and barely get out as it is. And even when I was single, I was pretty pessimistic about the prospects of online dating. The notion that I might travel to some different part of the country to meet someone I talked to on a forum is just not something I ever considered realistic.

The extent of my desire to socialize with people on the internet is that there are a few people that I wouldn't mind having a drink with, particularly STL Bore.
