Blood Dragon has the gameplay of Far Cry 3 distilled down without all the superfluous bullshit. Also doesn't have the awful characters and story (outside of Vaas).

It's just a $15 expansion pack for Far Cry 3. Only 7 missions, the rest you just do the usual from Far Cry 3.

I kind of prefer the setting for Far Cry 3, though. Sneaking around felt much better. It seems like in this one they want you to go in guns blazing.

Totally agreed with that. I really wish they'd tweaked the gameplay a bit to emphasize the guns-blazing approach, 'cuz being sneaky with this atmosphere just feels totally wrong.

I did not mean to offend anyone in this thread, I think it looks pretty cool myself.

Wait, really? I feel the exact opposite of you guys. I feel like a bona fide badass sneaking up to dudes with my knife, and it's fun and challenging to pull off in the levels. I don't really have a point of reference without playing Far Cry 3, but I've enjoyed my stealth-based approach so far. Were there big armored dudes in the original game too? Those are the only guys that require some strong-arming.

i sneak up at first to get a couple bonus kills but after that theres no reason to. you can take all damage and pull off insta-kills right in dudes faces. feels like its designed to be fast-paced even tho movement still feels to realistic and clunky.

Took a couple dozen minutes for my eyes to adjust and understand what I'm seeing.  The futurewar styling is almost overwhelming and it's great.

I haven't played Far Cry 3 to compare it with, but it's reminding me of Tomb Raider where enemies are more vulnerable to (laser)arrows than bullets.  Sneaking around and using the bow is fun.  Shotgun and explosives are fun.  Pistol and burst fire SMG feel wimpy; sniper rifle seems redundant when you can silently one arrow a dude's femur to take him out.

Far Cry 3 has much more options in approaching these bases. In Blood Dragon, everything is surrounded by the shield, nobody gets in or out besides the Dragon.

I've had situations in Far Cry 3 where I will be sneaking around, when suddenly a bear decides to run in and eat everyone. The dice don't seem to be as effective in getting guards' attention. There is a "heavy takedown" but you don't get it until much later. Skill progression is more choice given rather than automatic as well in Far Cry 3.

Blood Dragon is essentially all of this distilled into one streamlined package. It's great, I enjoy the setting, but there's no question Far Cry 3 has better gameplay.

Ah, I see. It would definitely help to choose what skills get upgrades as I progressed, but I don't find it too big of a deal. I've actually had wild animals help me subdue enemies out in the map, but it does seem like once you're in a base, the animals don't come in. I'm still not really interested in checking out the full game, and I'm sure by the end of this one I'll be more than satisfied with my experience.

I wanted to make sure so I let the credits roll.  20 minutes later it reached the licensed song bit.

The first thing that immediately stood out to me when I initially previewed Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon wasn't the neon, it wasn't the hark back to the ridiculousness of the 80's, it wasn't even the blood dragons themselves. That's because I didn't get to see much of any of that before being hit with a gay, possibly homophobic joke.
