Cause for instance with Broken Sword 5 part 1 I feel like I should've waited until part 2 came out since it was all just setup for the rest of the plot that is going to happen.

yeah for me that perfectly describes part 1 of broken age

Really? Because, like, both stories accomplished something pretty big at the end.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
The boy breaks free of his spaceship prison and the girl takes down "Mog Chothra." Each of those obviously leads to bigger questsions, but it's not like nothing happened at all and the half ended on a vague note.

yeah but both of these serve no purpouse other than

spoiler (click to show/hide)
THE MONSTER WAS THE SHIP ALL ALONG!

it doesn't even feel like the boy breaks free of his prison because you never get to play with him outside of the ship, heck you wouldn't even know that he breaks free if it wasn't for the 2 minute ending
the same goes for the girl... the instant she defeat mog chotra the game ends, nobody berates her... she doesn't go back to her family... the only thing her defeating mog chotra accomplish is that she switch places with the boy, because oh fuck do we love parallelism!
[close]

but yeah let's make this clear to bebs,it doesn't end in a vague manner... it's just that there isn't a lot of plot before the big reveal

Both characters achieved their initial "goal," and in doing so set up the second half. That seems like as good a place to end the first half as anything.

another thing i wanted to add

spoiler (click to show/hide)
the girl visit some cities and interact with lot of NPC so at least it feels like you are doing some proper adventuring... but in the boy scenario you barely get to do anything and are confined in a single zone 5-6 screen zone, heck if it wasn't for the bit where you have to take the control back there wouldn't even be puzzle at all! i honestly tought that before the game ended he would awake and you would play as him again simply because the whole thing felt so limited... and i say this as someone who think the boy scenario is better

if it was me i would have continued the girl scenario until she finds the kidnapped girls and/or the wolf guy (maybe she get a glance of wolf guy without the costume) and shay make contact with the guy that built the death laser and/or someone who knows how the maiden festival work (maybe he can find the family of the girl the ai was based on!) which can spill the bean as soon as act 2 starts

that seems like a much better place to stop... the girl would finds herself in a place where she can fight the real mastermind and the boy would find himself in a place where he can learn how all this started

To be fair, Yahtzee made a better adventure game than anything Schafer's made in a decade+

I like Tim Schafer but everything at Doublefine feels like it's made by creative people who don't really get fundamental good game design (for example, the not being able to skip dialogue line by line thing in broken age), whereas Yatzhee's shown he knows what makes games fun and good through years of criticism and applied that to his own game design.

*edit* fuck, I hate posting/typing on my phone arghhh

Judging by the comments he's got a pretty stable viewership. I still watch it because - well, I like the way he expresses his opinions. I take it as I would any post here, really.

I've never found his videos insightful/funny/interesting/clever. It's a real mystery to me why people post them. That being said, humour is very subjective so maybe I'm missing something.

The thing is I have a bit of a british fetish myself so you would think I would find this stuff great then. But to me it comes off as British Andy Rooney which is not something that is very cool.

If I'm gonna watch a sarcastic Brit trash something, it's going to be Ashens trashing cheap tat from Poundland.

:umad about someone saying KS is lame dog? :smug

honestly gaming journalism is so damn saccarine that i fucking love watching people trashing vidyagames, it's not like his critique sounds made up just for the sake of criticizing the game, it sounds like stuff that would naturaly pop out if gaming journalism had an actual backbone, this whole broken age video can be summed up to "the puzzle are simple, the reveal is good but the game doesn't end in a really good spot, and the boy story is better than the girl story" and ehy i fucking said the same thing!

compare to how ign opens... ahem!
"Act 1 of Broken Age is a gorgeous, impeccably written adventure that simultaneously tugs at my nostalgic core, while ushering in a new era for the point-and-click genre. "

I don't care either way. I think he's lame for any game he does it with. Could be a game I love or a game I hate. I'm just surprised that gamer types think anything especially clever is going on there. Especially when its the same gimmick over and over.

Pretty much what Stoney said. I used to watch his videos a lot, thought they were pretty funny. But if you've seen one of his videos, you've basically seen all of him. I guess it's okay if you really hate something and want to see him tear it apart, but it just mainly comes across as the negative version of IGN's saccharine reviews [which I also don't pay any attention to].

If you repeat the same joke over and over it only gets funnier!

That's the essence of great comedy right.

Broken Age has got a really nice soundtrack:

Peter McConnell worked on basically every LucasArts soundtrack from 1991 through 2004, and pretty much every Double Fine game except for a few of the smaller ones.

This thread is just about two years old now, but Broken Age Part 2 is finally finished and now only needs to have the PC version pressed onto a disc and the console version certified. Basically, we're about a month or so away from Broken Age being available in it's full, unbroken [herher] version.

Also, come back, Oscar-kun~ :tocry

As much as I'm a Doublefine Stan, I backed this game, and still haven't played its first part. I guess I really don't like adventure games.

As nice as it is to see that the developers at Double Fine remembered their promise to release an Android version, it does chafe somewhat that it's been published almost an entire year after the iOS version.

MAYBE YOU COULD CALL THIS “TIM’S CHAFER”

It was the first one I’d seen for the Android release. The guy writes a whole article about how he’s angry DoubleFine “finally remembered” they’d promised an Android version, and how inexcusable it is that it has taken 10 months to release...

...and then puts in AS AN ADDENDA that it contains both Acts 1 & 2, with Act 2 having only been released this week.

Tim has repeatedly made fun of my family name, so I call him “Chafe Her” in return. In this article, I saw the shot and couldn’t resist.
