wasn't Gladius one of the best turn based strat games of last gen (and probably the last really good Lucasarts game), because it sure feels like it.
Shadow of Rome kicks an unholy amount of ass. Sure, the story isn't super awesome, and the stealth sequences are kinda tedious, but man oh man, does it ever deliver as an action game. The fighting isn't super deep, but its skill based and its mechanics just work so damn well. Its one of the rare games that makes even the most common and repetitive action satisfying. Also, the points system is cleverly implemented and once again, works just so dang well. A more polished, streamlined sequel could have been a thing of beauty, as is we'll have to be satisfied with the best sandal-wearing beat-em-up of all time (and I didn't forget God of War).
