Gonna buy a new phone tomorrow, what do I get?

Gonna replace my sloooow and often freezing w/lq camera iphone 4 because I'm going to Coachella in a few weeks and I want to take LOT O PICS but don't want to lug my DSLR around the whole time.  So I figure I'll finally upgrade my phone with one of those new phones with super rad cameras and use that.

Things I care about in a phone:
-GOOD CAMERA
-ability to text
-ability to facebook
-ability to web browse
-ability to use spotify app to stream bluetooth music through my car stereo

That's about all I use my phone for.  Right now I'm on the grandfathered in unlimited texts family plan on the AT&T iphone thing.  So that may play a factor and may be a reason why I should just get an iphone5 as I do text a shitload to a million different people.

Also I can't decide whether its my phone, carrier, or the apps I'm using, but there's some pretty janky issues when it comes to wifi and data access that are increasingly pissing me off.

Edit: I have to say though, I'm sorta jelly of the note 2.

The iPhone 5 camera is OK I guess.  It's not gonna be a replacement for the real thing.  But if you're coming off an older iPhone model you know what to expect.  Battery life is good, too.

Just looking at AT&T:

As far as Androids there's the HTC One which is said to have a very good camera for low light conditions and there's the Galaxy S4 coming soon which can take higher megapixel pictures. The HTC's camera is technically only 4 megapixels but it uses larger pixels than normal to be able to capture more light. Other than the cameras, the rest of the specs are basically the same with the HTC One having a brighter screen and the GS4 having a slightly larger screen (both are 1080P).

The Lumia 920 is also a decent phone with a pretty good camera. It has optical image stabilzation which might be useful for a concert setting.

The iPhone 5 has generally a pretty good camera but it's boring, try a new OS after 3 years.

note 2's battery lasts forever n a day as long as you turn off some one the bullshit extras like gps. i can play games whenever i have a free break and not have to worry about battery life as long as i charged it up the night before.

Yeah, I have a Nexus 4 and haven't had a great battery experience with it either, but I seem to generally suck at keeping phone batteries alive in general so I wasn't sure if it was the phone or me.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of iPhones as iTunes is the devil and I've never used a Mac really.  Just in previous upgrade years everything else was shittier.  Now there's finally good competition!  So yeah, would like to get something else.

The Nokia 920 is a great camera phone. But the HTC One is also good so just look up photo comparisons and go for whatever best meets what you want out of a camera. Both operating systems are totally different though so also play around with each for half an hour (each) and see if there's any dealbreakers in it. It probably will take a few weeks to work out the kinks. Or work in any particular kinks you like in the case of Android.

Battery life is not great on any phone these days unless you get a Motorola but they don't focus their phones on the camera.

Camera is probably not as good as the 920 but that larger screen is great for all the other stuff you mention

Also, it has amazing battery life according to my dad

He goes online a lot with his phones and this is the first phone that can last him for a whole day without a recharge

Yeah, probably gonna get the Nokia.  I've been kind of interested in a Windows 8 phone since it came out and MCD was pimping it everywhere.

I think the W8 interface is shit for PC, but it looks pretty damn sleek and sexy for a phone UI.  And like I said, I don't do much with my phones, so as long as it can do the basic stuff then it'll be good enough for me.

So other than getting a better camera, there is no reason to buy a new phone. In some ways the old phone is actually superior because you can replace the battery (costs ~$10).

Two ways to do it. Buy a flagship phone one to two years out of date because you'll save hundreds off the price, and most phones are built to basically be fine for 99% of the population. Or go for a small brand phone with great specs and save hundreds of dollars because you're not paying for the marketing costs or for the company to sort out the binning process.
