Don't know where you are located but there are a lot of boot/shoe makers here in the us and abroad that do workshops where you build a shoe from scratch over a couple weeks/days. Always wanted to try it, just need to be near a place that does it.

Also I got a pair of sneakers:

So I got into the New Balance beta test program after applying on a whim a few years ago. Can't wait to wear some ugly ass shoes and write essays about them. At least NBs are comfy.

I like NB's for their comfort as well, but they sure are ugly damned shoes.

My stepdad left me some nice LL Bean sheepskin slippers, so for the first winter of my life I am wandering around in winter with clothed feet. I must be both old, and a CAC.

Yeah I've never like the look of NBs. And I hear it's time for me to stop using my running shoes with real clothes

In which case, don't buy sneakers.  They're for athletics and children.

well, how much do you want to blow? my default answer will range from common projects to vans off the wall or vans vault.

or look at:

filling pieces
vince
diemme
ami
buttero

you can usually find them on sale. common projects are my personal favorite but they are not cheap and hard to find on discount, unless you are a larger size.

epauletny just dropped a bunch of calf sneakers for about 200 bones
