Yeah, that was an April Fool's Joke by Art.

Art is a tough guy to profile by the radio show.  You get the idea (most of the time) that's he's REALLY good at patronizing people, and making them believe he's following them, and on their side.  Because of this skill, it's difficult to tell how much of this crap he really believes.

The poor kids' lives are basically ruined. I hope naively that there are no serious implications in the future when it comes to them getting jobs, meeting people, etc., but I know that's probably bullshit.

Honestly PD, maybe there was a racial element to this, painting it as a Black woman v. White man thing, but I'd always considered it a sad showing of the apparently treasured "Women would never lie about rape" conditioned response that PCniks seem to love so much.

Actually, I'm fairly certain I did see some black/white takes on it, but I never paid much attention to them.

I stumbled on to the ad placed by the Duke faculty and if this isn't the biggest case of race baiting I don't know what is.

http://listening.nfshost.com/listening.htm

80% of the African & African-American Studies, 72% of the Women's Studies, and 60% of the Cultural Anthropology departments signed it.

0% of the Engineering, law, Biological Anthropology and Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Genetics, Germanic Languages/Literature, Psychology and Neuroscience, Religion, and Slavic and Eurasian Studies departments signed it.

Big shock there.

Yup, told ya.

Pretty outrageous. And when you consider who signed it (many of the typical "social science" crowd) it's even less surprising lol

It's amazing how easy it is to pull race into an issue and totally discredit it.

Wow, I didn't think the departmental slant of support for this would be that one sided.  I must say, I have to give the faculty more credit than I did.  I figured it was going to be a cross-section of the faculty, not just the usual gang of idiots.

Yeah, she's pretty on target on this one.  That case was completely ridiculous.  It's ludicrous that Americans are conditioned like dogs to 100% believe the woman in these situations, despite any evidence to the contrary.  And it's not like there WASN'T a lot of evidence proving the innocence of the lacrosse players.

Shame on the faculty for using what was clearly a hoax to even further push their lame agenda furthering these conditioned responses to perceived racism and sexism.  Lameass PC bullshit.

Speaking of PC conditioning:

Quote
According to the Los Angeles Times—in an article about another hoax "hate crime" on a college campus—false reports of racist hate crimes on college campuses have averaged about one a year for 20 years.

Without having read this LA Times article, I bet a lot of the hoax "hate crimes" weren't deliberate hoaxes, but just cases where an overly PC aware and "persecuted" jackass saw hate in something completely innocuous  or unintended.

the lacrosse players, being white duke students, most likely are racist and could, conceivably, commit the acts they're charged with.

you still have no evidence it's a hoax.

she could very well be telling the truth, but she's black, living in the south, accusing wealthy whiteboys of rape.

from the outset, the odds were against her.

Nah dude, it's definitely a hoax.  And not even a good one.  The chick has changed her story about 6 times as the people she's accused have produced alibis.

The fact that this case has been so dragged out proves that her race has nothing to do with the case being dropped.  How about the lack of any DNA evidence, even across multiple tests?  Or how about the first people she accused ended up having solid alibis?

If the odds were truly against her, this case would've been dropped after the very first round of DNA tests, back in April, but no, they did more tests, and they let her change her story, multiple times.  She's been given more than the benefit of a doubt here.

futami, this has nothing to do (or should have nothing to do) with "wealthy whiteboys." The whole thing has been overblown. That's what it boils down to. If you're dumb enough to make this about race, that's your problem. The case is, to put it simply, stupid.

had it been three black boys, they probably would have been lynched by now.

it has everything to do with race.

Yes, because we just know how common lynchings are in this day and age.  C'mon futami, these kids were held up to a high amount of scrutiny.  To totally destroy your argument, people continued to listen to the BLACK victim after it was discovered she lied multiple times and had many sexual partners. . .and this was all below the Mason-Dixon line, in supposed "racist" territory.

If race had anything to do with this, color me shocked.  The supposedly racist south continued to investigate the repeatedly disproven claims of a known promiscuous black stripper.  Where's the racism here?

I'm tired of the double standard given to women who cry rape. When an accuser starts changing their story on any other crime it's automatically (and universally) seen as the first admission of guilt. Yet when alleged rape victims start changing their story we have to hear the boo hoo hoo stories of how they were demonized, treated unfairly, and omg this is a sexist system and her privacy is now gone because of the media, so oh no wonder she wants to end the case right now. You either got raped or you didn't get raped, and if these holier than thou female defense attornies really cared about these alleged victims they would't be covering the story 24/7 and putting pressure on them (which is what they accuse everyone else of doing, excluding themselves).

Come on futami! She initially told police that she was raped by 20 white men, later claiming three (a few weeks ago she claimed she wasn't sure she was raped at all). The alleged victim originally claimed the white devils did not use condoms and ejaculated yet no DNA from any of the players was found on her. She also claimed she did not have sex for a whole week, but sperm from several males was found in her body. She also changed the timeline several times, nevertheless all of the timelines seem to be problematic for a variety of reasons (photo evidence, phone calls, taxi rides, ATM attraction, etc.). Let's not even get into her history.

No malek you don't get it she was BLACK thus she CAN'T be lying!  You saw how quickly they've dismissed the charges!  Oh, wait. Er, I mean, you saw WHEN THE VICTIM WAS LYNCHED!  Oh, uh, wait!  But it's in the big racist south, so it has to be RACISM.  RICH WHITE RACISM!!

Well, I think it's just distinguished mentally-challenged to try to say race was a factor in this case.  And the Kobe case for that matter.

Both were sexual assault cases, and I think the pavlovian "Women never lie about rape" thing outweighs the race factor.  No matter what color their skin, people pay attention to rape charges.

With the Kobe case it was a big black guy allegedly overpowering a white girl and raping her. The race card was out from the beginning; I've never seen anyone deny that.

Here, the race factor is different but still large. It's not surprising why some whites including yourself don't see the race issue here, but from my position (and possibly Futami's, I don't know) it's not hard at all.

I dunno, PD, it's difficult to tell how hard the race card was being played when the equally big Celebrity card was also on the table.

OJ much? lol

Kobe was never seen as a thug type player and was (and still is) given the benefit of the doubt. If this was an Allen Iverson, things would have been different.

With the Duke case the race card was played rather early on by the woman's team. Not to mention the big protests that went on at the school while this was happening; god I hope those people feel like idiots now.
