Yeah, she's pretty on target on this one.  That case was completely ridiculous.  It's ludicrous that Americans are conditioned like dogs to 100% believe the woman in these situations, despite any evidence to the contrary.  And it's not like there WASN'T a lot of evidence proving the innocence of the lacrosse players.

Shame on the faculty for using what was clearly a hoax to even further push their lame agenda furthering these conditioned responses to perceived racism and sexism.  Lameass PC bullshit.

Speaking of PC conditioning:

Quote
According to the Los Angeles Times—in an article about another hoax "hate crime" on a college campus—false reports of racist hate crimes on college campuses have averaged about one a year for 20 years.

Without having read this LA Times article, I bet a lot of the hoax "hate crimes" weren't deliberate hoaxes, but just cases where an overly PC aware and "persecuted" jackass saw hate in something completely innocuous  or unintended.

Of course as a white male Ann would feel that way.

A week after this made the news it was pretty clear that there was no case here. Oddly it took a year for some people to finally realize this.

I'd think anyone with at least part of a brain would think this way.

Wasn't the case just finally dropped like a month or 2 ago?  Even once the case was dropped, there were still people on GAF going BUT SHE CAN STILL NOT BE LYING!  There's this godawful response to any rape accusation that women would NEVER lie about being raped.  I'd wager there are a large amount of people in prison wrongfully do to that response.

My dad's friend got into maximum security prison (federal) because he violated a restraining order by his exgirlfriend when she asked him to come over to comfort her because she was depressed.  She didn't call the cops until he was living with her for two weeks and they pointed their guns at him and told him he was under arrest when they woke him up after which a judge put him into maximum security prison for 8 months.  Men have no voice when it comes to defending themselves, people will never trust a man against a woman.

And Ann's a bitch.

Well, you see, that's a case of someone clearly breaking the law, not a case of SHE SAID HE DID it versus a mountain of evidence that says he didn't.

And come on, anyone that's, you know, ever lived can tell you that women can be as untrustworthy as men can.

the part that annoyed me was that she didn't also get thrown into prison for being a god damn two-faced bitch.

Laws are making women feel overprotected and able to do whatever unethical things they want.

And Ann's a bitch.

The part that pissed me off most was the responce to this in the black community. From the offset these guys were guilty until proven guilty-er in the minds of many black "leaders" and their ignorant followers.

It reminds me of OJ. This sense of entitlement some people have towards these crimes. "Oh yeah he might have murdered her, but whites have gotten away with killing blacks for years and it's time we balance it out" or "Oh, these guys might be innocent but if it was a group of black guys gangraping a white woman they'd be in prison right now." That doesn't address the issue at all, and that vendetta mentality has no place in law. You are innocent until proven innocent, not the other way around, and it's laughable that anyone could possibly think they have all the facts of the case because some asshole "expert" on CNN told them so.

Honestly PD, maybe there was a racial element to this, painting it as a Black woman v. White man thing, but I'd always considered it a sad showing of the apparently treasured "Women would never lie about rape" conditioned response that PCniks seem to love so much.

Actually, I'm fairly certain I did see some black/white takes on it, but I never paid much attention to them.

Trust me, this was a huge racial issue. A group of whites in a predominantly white, "elitist" college (located near a rather poor black area for irony) allegedly torture and rape an African American woman. BAM. Jesse Jackson just blew a load all over his turtleneck.

Cases like these always bring out race, which isn't surprising on one hand. But on the other hand you still have a group of people who's sole existance seems to be to play the race card at every moment. Oh, the case is taking long? If it was a black guy he'd be in jail already! Oh, they want to still play sports while the trial goes on? That's a damn shame!

Sean Hannity was right when he trash-talked the "god hates fegs" cult, but I don't think Sean Hannity is my hero. Come, on Diablos, why is it always about partisanism?  Just say "Ann Coulter is right on this one."  It's not that hard!

Admitting that she is right on one thing isn't saying she's the new hotness or nuJesus or anything.  Why can't the people on the extremes can't ever admit that their political enemies might have a good idea or two?  Oh, yeah, because if people were actually honest the world would take a giant shit.

How can one ever agree with someone they've demonized to a point of not being human? If you feel Bush is a vicious killer who rapes babies and flies planes into buildings (not saying Diablos believes that) there's no way you can morally agree with anything he says. Because he's evil. And once you succeed in making him unhuman you've done the deed

Also, it's a waste of time to be partisan about Ann Coulter. I'd argue she gets so much press because people simply won't shut the hell up about her. "Do not feed the troll" comes to mind here.

Immediately writing people off and ignoring their pov is par for the course for these extremists.  Instead of trying to understand why someone believes the things they do, they find it easier to plant their own flag and say that their own opinions are absolutely correct.

It's weird, it's almost as though they're saying, "you're either with us or against us," or something along those lines; when you decide to cast someone as an "evildoer" you don't have to look into the "root causes" of their disagreements.

Because you added all sorts of ridiculous caveats to your agreement. And you put words in my mouth.

Look at this, Diablos, isn't this pretty much the opposite of being open-minded:

Quote
Ann Coulter IS "on the extreme", the extreme right that is. Why would you expect her "political enemies" to agree with her?

Just because SHE may not be open-minded doesn't mean you shouldn't be.  Don't write people off because of their pasts!

Ann Coulter's entire past is nothing but hating on liberals, White Man. It's kind of hard to not judge her past.

Well, I guess she won't be getting invited to your birthday party at McDonald's Playland this year.

I think he's calling you childish.  Her past should have no interference with her being right on a subject.  He's not asking you to agree with all her other views, only admit that she is correct in this instance without bringing up shit that has nothing to do with it.

If you have experience with people who constantly misrepresent facts, construct bad arguments, and are generally demented it is then a good idea to primae facie write them off. The number of possible sources of information or opinion is so very vast that it is a good idea to lower that number when there is good cause to do so. For example if a conspiracy theorists constantly misrepresents facts then one need not pay attention to his new book that supposedly proves that George W. Bush is a robot controlled by "the Jews" or anything else he ever writes. Though, if he happens to be right about something, and this is brought to your attention, you can admit he's write while still writing him off in general.

Her past doesn't have anything to do with being right for once, yes. All I said was that it does not change my overall view on Ann Coulter. Which, you know, the OP was kind of talking about -- agreeing with Ann Coulter even if she's pretty icky otherwise.

You're using Art Bell as a source of entertainment and not as a source of information. Though I would listen attentively if he is discussing how to get some Lemurs from the old country

Actually, in the early days, it was a fairly mixed up pot of credible vs. crackpot.  He'd get legit physicists to come on and explain the science behind things like wormhole theory and time travel, and sometimes even more everyday things.  George Carlin was also a guest a couple of times, and while we educated people don't take it seriously, he's had a parade of various priests come on to explain the more interesting facets of their respective religion.

The show didn't go 100% completely off the wall till probably the late 90s, at which point you could expect insane crap just about every night.  And apparently before he did Coast to Coast, he did a legit political talk radio thing for like a decade.

But, eh, I can devote an entire thread to Art.  I think the show is an educational experience.  Even the crackpots, I try to piece together how they've come to think what they think, and believe me, after a long time studying this shit, it's pretty easy to tell the "legit" crackpots from the people calling in just to joke.

But yes, it started out as a source of entertainment before I just got plain fascinated by the (I hate to use this word but I am watching Arrested Development and lol brain fart) "psychology" behind the crackpots.
