I'm very open in my dislike of MGS2, but I don't blame MGS2 for it. I pretty much hate the whole series. Not my thing, and when the game was promoted as THE CONSOLE GAME OF THE FOREVER back then I thought "well then I don't want console games", and never touched my PS2 again until years later.

I have very love/hate relationship with the MGS series.  The games are great when they're not falling all over themselves to try to have a stupid, convoluted story.  The worst thing a game can do imo is take you out of the gameplay at the expense of the story- this is the series' biggest sin.  STFU and let me sneak around and kill shit, you dumb asshole.

I like the MGS games and I like their stories in the sense that I like what the stories are trying to do, but I have to admit they're quite poorly written on multiple levels despite the occasional inspired bit. It would be nice if someday Kojima would partner with someone equally idiosyncratic, egotistical and strong-willed, with equal clout in the production (don't laugh plz), but with actual writing chops
