People don't like the idea of buying something they know they won't use, especially if that cost is non-recoverable.  You don't worry about your lunch because you're going to eat it immediately and enjoy it.  You worry about that $15 game because you probably have a hundred Steam games you haven't touched already and you might not play this until the year 2030 and if it's bad you can't sell it and it will just sit there shamefully on your download list for all time and OH GOD

....and with a downloadable game, it will pretty much be there as long as you want it. In my mind, I have already bought Guacamelee...i just won't actually get it until it is cheap or i run out of stuff to play on Vita. in the meantime, it sits on the digital shelf quite happily without me paying a damn thing

I agree with Shaka about the Vita version.  Oddly blurry compared other 2D games like Rayman and Sound Shapes.  Still plays great and everything, but PS3 version is much sharper.

Overall I thought the game was great.  100% took roughly six and a half hours, which is fine for this sort of game.  I checked the leaderboards and the top speedrun is around an hour versus three hours for 100%, so I can see why it's a problem if you don't aim for 100%.  Some instances the combat felt too stiff and shank-y.  And I wish you could change the controls to make L1/R1 the 'main' shoulder buttons instead of the mushy triggers.

Now I want to check out that tales of blobs game these guys did.  I think it was on PS Plus a while back.

I 100%'d The Temple of War yet I cannot find the last chest in the Desert, ugh.

Also I HATE, HATE, HATE the level 1 yellow skeletons that are lunging around with a sickle. They killed me twice in the Cave challenge #2 and once in the Temple of War boss fight. Fuck'em. Most basic enemy found in the game and it is the hardest one.

The yellow skeletons can be troublesome at times, since they'll always dodge your 3rd hit. That's why you should always uppercut them, then aerial-combo them 'till they're dead.

Spinning gears was definitely tricky. I had an easier time when I stopped Goat Flying everywhere; I started jumping+warping at the same time instead, it's so much safer, imo.

Problem is this game had ZERO hype and ZERO marketing.

Everybody knows Limbo, Braid or FEZ even my PS3 colleagues. No one of them knew what Guacamelee is even though they saw it on the front page of the new PSN Store.

I don't think it had any more or less hype/marketing than any other digital download. You're not going to see commercials for it. It was talked about a decent amount throughout its development, and it had a banner on the PS store when it launched. All the major websites reviewed it with generally high scores (i think).

What do you think should have been done?

I played the demo of this at a Vita kiosk at GameStop yesterday... it looks nice and seemed to play pretty good, although I don't like how you can only use the analog stick for movement on the Vita. Definitely gonna pick it up on PS3 this weekend.

decided to try this, the music is sort of dull but otherwise it's a pretty good game, there is a lot of platforming to do and most of it has to do with your ability to jump between dimension, some platform or wall only appear in one dimension so you are supposed for example to jump, switch dimension while mid-air and then switch dimension again before you land,it's pretty neat... as you can see from that gif above you are also quite agile in combat,it feels quite satysfing to land all your special move on a foe, sadly i seems to understand it's quite short,i've clocked around 3 hours and defeated jaguar man and i seems to understand the next zone is the last? that's really a shame, other things that don't really hurt the game but kinda annoys me and i want to bitch about it

- unless i didn't realize it,there is no way to see what items you are missing in a zone which makes getting 100% a matter of checking a faq
- the game has to remind me of it being an indie game by putting random videogames and internet meme reference for no reason, tough i have to admit i get a chuckle seeing them reimagined as mexican luchadores and ads :teehee
- when i saw the epilepsy warning i tought it was just a standard warning, not that the game would flash in the brighest shade of purple, yellow and blue everytime i collected an upgrade, seriously everytime i feel like frigging dracula staring at the sun

Just finished up a 200.6% Symphony of the Night replay in anticipation of getting my PS3 out of storage. Will definitely get started on this as soon as the move clears up.

Oscar, thanks for the "Real Deal" impressions. This may be PS+ fodder by August but if it's that good I definitely want to support the devs up front.

meh

new Trophies though :hyper

i've been wondering this for a while but what happens if you add DLC that adds new trophies to a platinumed game? do you lose the platinum until you get all the new one?

No, you keep Platinum, since it was a trophy itself. You just don't get "100%" completion

Yeah, unlike Xbox, which will take away your "COMPLETED GAME" status if you buy DLC for a game, and then don't finish it. I've finished RDR except for two Achievements, and one of them is an impossible Poker one. :mac
