Got a bunch of games and I don't know what to play next
« on: April 20, 2013, 11:37:17 PM »
I hate to do this, but I really can't choose. Right now I'd prefer something that won't take forever to finish and won't piss me off/have me stuck repeatedly. List time:

Dues Ex: HR
Resident Evil 6
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
Tomb Raider Legend
GRID
NFS: Most Wanted
Catherine
Binary Domain
Lollipop Chainsaw

I left out some older games, fighters, and arcade downloads to make this a bit easier.

Well, I never finished Deus Ex: HR, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, GRID, or Catherine, so I suggest you play Binary Domain.

Yeah play Lollipop Chainsaw. Stomp through on Easy and unlock a bunch of combos then play it on a real difficulty in a stupid costume. The bunny suit is super kawaii!

Guess I'll go with Lollipop Chainsaw, unless I get some more recommendations.

Deus Ex and Lolipop Chainsaw are pretty good. Peace Walker sucks. RE6 seems to be up in the air, I mostly think it's garbage but it's got fans here. I like the way Catherine looks and the story and character interaction are Persona quality, but the gameplay is well......a puzzle game and I don't like puzzles. Still a pretty fun game to go through once.

I say do Chainsaw first. It's fun and simple, just really ok button mashing combo gameplay.

I also like Binary Domain. It's no great shooter, but it works. It's got a cool setting, you fight cool enemies that fall apart in cool ways, and the trust system with the character I guess is somewhat engaging. But it's nothing that will blow your mind.

Dues Ex has gotten the most love, but I'm gonna go with Lollipop Chainsaw first. Seems like a simple game that I'll be done with quickly.

Okay cool. Is it only 2 players online like RE5?

beezy, seriously don't play Peace Walker. I'm a retardo-fan of MGS and I strongly recommend just looking up the YouTube video of all the cutscenes strung together so you're caught up for MGS5.

Peace Walker's levels are so short you never really get the chance to play around with enemies, and literally all the bosses are pathetic and tedious (especially when you think about how many rad boss fights have been in previous games). I get the feeling the multiplayer is the real draw to PW, but I never touched it.

I have to. I haven't touched an MGS game since Subsistence. I've had my friend's copy of MGS4 for months now, but I feel like I'll hate it based on what I've seen and heard. Peace Walker can't be worse than that.

Personally, I think MGS4 was a much better game. The worst part of 4 is how often cutscenes occur and how long each and every single one of them is. If you don't mind the game constantly stopping so it can tell you a bunch of shit, the gameplay in-between is decent fun and the boss fights are, at the very least, acceptable ripoffs of bosses from previous games (with the exception of the last two, which are awesome in their own way).

To explain just how bad the cutscene problem is, there used to be a single YouTube video of all the cutscenes that lasted around 9 hours. A friend and I recently played a marathon of MGS4 (without skipping anything) and our end-game timer read just over 15 hours. You can do the math.

Peace Walker has way less cutscenes by comparison, but the game in between just isn't that fun. There's no hiding that it was clearly limited by the PSP hardware and the design suffers for it. You might enjoy it more, but I honestly had more fun playing the Metal Gear Ac!d games.

i liked peace walker,at his core it really isn't much different from mgs3 and there are small rpg element where you can capture soldiers (using goofy parachute's no less) and have them research new weapon and items for you... the only part that really sucks is the post game, you get to refight bosses you already fought previously but they all have disgustingly amount of HP and fighting them become frustating

except this part, this part is awesome

Well if your that type of quirky gamer who really gets into stats and item crafting and all that stuff. Yeah, you may find PW enjoyable.

But I hate all that stuff.

I loathe PW. Yes, the levels are small and the ai seemingly more dumb then the average MG. So in the PSP version since aiming was a pain, I could easily just run up and CQC people like it was nothing. So, the stealth is quite weak in this one. I'm quite sure in HD version thanks to the aiming being better, you could just stay in one place and shoot the idiotic guards and then move on. Hell, I was able to do that in many a places in the PSP version.

And then there's the boss battles. Beyond the fact that the lack the personality of past MGS bosses(well they are vehicles) they are just kind of boring and very tedious. If you don't do co-op, you have bossess that are'nt balanced. So you'll be shooting a lot of missles and dropping a lot of supply beacons and reapting the process over and over. Bossess just take forever to kill and are'nt exciting. They are'nt diffuclit, just tedious.

But you could say "just get better gear". It's true, but then you have to spend your time doing the bonus missions over and over. So now MGS has become a game where you grind and wait for the troops you collect to make better weapons. So now you're going to have to put in a lot more time then you would for a normal MGS game where yes you can go and find bonus things, but you didn't have to say constantly refight a boss to get that shinny new Mk22 or whatever. It just wasn't fun to me at all. You're better off importing someone elses completed save.

If you do that, you won't have to worry about the bossess and what not. Which then become not exactly fun, but not a bother. You then can just play through the main single player and you'll have a pretty meh stealth game.

Catherine is ok, but if you go in raw dog you will probably get frustrated at the puzzle segments.

Deus Ex is pretty straight forward and simple, that's a good choice.

RE6 is hella fucking long (at least it feels like it)

Lollipop Chainsaw is like, 6 levels and done. Good ending if you save everyone (which isnt much).

Peace Walker is gay

Racing games are, well, racing games

Binary Domain is straight forward too, like Lollipop Chainsaw.

Tomb Raider Legendi s a good choice too. Great game.

Sounds like I should've got the MGS HD collection instead of Peace Walker, but I wanted to play something new. Ah well. I only paid $10.

I heard Catherine was a puzzle game, but I still know almost nothing about it. Wasn't sure if it got really difficult and I'm not in the mood to find out right now. I still wanted to see if you guys praised it or not though.

Catherine is a great game and one of the most unique games this gen, but it's also really tough, especially for those who aren't big into puzzle games.

You should at least give peace walker a shot if you already own it.  I'm not too fond of it, but it's not a bad game.  It's the core of MGS3/4 with everything but the very basics stripped away.  Levels are small and can completed quickly.  I mean, it was a game meant for a portable system, so you can jump in and play for a few minutes, versus the expectation of playing for dozens of minutes in other MGS games.  All the streamlining made it lose a lot of what I liked about MGS.  But I know other people liked it more than me, and some for how they cut the fat out of the series.  Bosses are heinous, though.  Unfortunate case of catching the monster hunter bug, I guess.  And there's tons of side content, for better or worse.  The game ends, but for the true ultimate ending you need to replay old levels and it's a time sink.

anyway, Deus Ex HR is the best of the list but is 20+ hours depending on how you play.  It's the type of game you can get invested in, so if that's a concern, maybe save for when you have more free time.

Binary Domain and Tomb Raider Legend are both ~8 hour long games.  Can't go wrong with either of them.
