1. Choose which game I play next.
2. I play the game
3. I write about the game
4. I procrastinate and get mercilessly mocked
5. Maybe some day I finish the game
6. Nothing. That's it.

Pretty easy, huh? So, hurry up and pick.

"bubububu Final Fantasy IX came out in 2000!" So, what? Big deal. Wanna fight about it? ect.

I've played some of the two Final Fantasies before, though not all the way through.

I voted for FF IX, because it's honestly one of the better games in the series.  uguu wankers will say otherwise and make Morgan Webb/Steiner jokes, but if you can get over the main character having a tail and all, it's pretty good.

Treasure Hunter G has a pretty great soundtrack (by a group of like 7 composers including Hitoshi Sakimoto) and I've heard the game is decent. So I vote for that

FF9 is good except for the godawful load times

Live A Live but it's not on your list. So I picked TOP, though I'd advise you to go with the PS1 version (SFC version has a ridiculous encounter rate, and Cless' translation is much better than Dejap's).

I picked Tales of Phantasia because I hate Tales of Phantasia and I want to see you suffer.

Joke's on you, I happen to like Tales of Phantasia. 8)

Also, man, it's gonna be really close with all the secret Bahamut Lagoon lovers on The Bore. :lol

The main issue is the slow combat.

I tried to play Treasure Hunter G, there was a game breaking bug in the translation. This might have been fixed however since then.

I beat the game a while ago (when the translation was first out) and don't remember any fatal bugs... could possibly be emulator-specific.

THG is a pretty cool game. A bit on the short and easy side, but the mini-SRPG one-time-only battles are cool and the music is good (made by 7 different composers). It's ST!NG's (the Yggdra Union/Evolution/Riviera guys) first game to my knowledge.

if you pick tales of phantasia you should play the translated psx version as opposed to translated snes version if only because it has a more reasonable encounter rate (oh and voiced skits also)
but i see the best game is winning anyway :smug

~Day 1~

-That opening teaser video is great, especially with the music [sounds like the start of some seafaring adventure]. And it's got airships, which is always a nice choice.

-And we've got super-derformed characters! You can expect character designs like that to never appear in another mainline FF game [that isn't an MMO] ever. Zidane's got a tail! Baku has bat ears and some kind of snout! He reminds me of Baku from Dominion Tank Police, but I can't be bothered to look up whether there was any connection.

-Baku is a great leader, always keeping his people on the toes by putting on a dragon hat and then attack them.

-Mission: kidnap the princess, the most babe-ilicious girl in the kingdom. So far, the best thing about this game is that the main characters are lovable rascals who just want to get up to a little kidnapping. You know, for fun!

-2D prerendered backgrounds! Also, they're animated! If Square Kickstarted a new game like that, I'd probably back it in a second, even knowing that it would be terrible and completely fail to live up to their legacy.

-Love this music.

-Now I'm running around town and looting everything in sight. No one cares. But, oh no! Vivi's ticket was blatantly fake and now he can't see the show. Except a help mouse-person came along and made him a slave in exchange for helping to sneak into the castle to watch some dumb Shakespeare knockoff.

-Let's just get this out in the open: Queen Brahne is hella ugly. Probably the ugliest major character ever in a Square game. Yeah, don't expect them to ever do that again. Nah, let's go back to pretty boys and such. I think they do that later in FF9 anyway.

-Gah, this play fight rhythm game is bad. Look, you can't just randomly fling up buttons like that! If you want some kind of rhythm and flow, you gotta have a system where the presses follow some sort of pattern or at least can be seen in advance of needing to actually press the button! But, I got 873 gil and Queen Brahne was QUITE IMPRESSED anyway, because I'm a boss like that.

-These two jester guys are dumb and I hate them. Let's just run them through now so I can be spared the headache when they doubtlessly appear a million times throughout the game.

-And what is with those female guards? They're wearing one piece bikinis and armored halter tops. Bizarre.

-Steiner's probably the most expressive FF character ever. Like how he's always perpetually pissed off at everything. Or this scene:

-No! The awesome airship got tore up and then it crashed into the forest which no one ever escapes from alive!!

-And...save. Time: 1 hour and 3 minutes.

~Day 2~

-And we're stuck in some creepy forest full of monsters. Also, CAPTURED PRINCESS! Quick, somebody go call Anita Sarkeesian!

-Haha, Steiner and Vivi got infected with evil spores that incubate inside their bodies until they hatch and cause instant death! Luckily out crew of scallywags* happens to have the cure. Don't ask where it came from or why they have it.

-Active Time Events are awesome and I wish more RPGs had this kind of thing. That, and Star Ocean's private actions are just sound game designs for story-heavy games. Not all scenes involve the main characters and being able to interact with my party in towns is a very simple way of adding a little extra flavor.

-Cinna is a total perv. He always carries around, and sleep with apparently, a doll of a 15 year old girl. At least it's not a body pillow, though.

-And now there's a flashback to 5 minutes ago! I know what happened, I just saw it!

-Heh heh, the band is playing the parade them from FF7. It's a such a simple thing, but I appreciate it.

-Suck it, plant boss, you ain't got no game. Had to use a metric ton of potions and phoenix downs, though, stupid area attack.

-RUN! It's a horde of killer plants!

-Oh, they turned to stone, I guess!

-I miss RPGs with expansive overworlds. I know it's one of those things that was done way back when because a detailed, interconnected world wasn't feasible, but I still miss it. Gave this sense of being part of an entire world full of strange and amazing locations. Square RPGs had some of the best overworld, too, and some of the best overworld themes, especially Final Fantasy IX and Xenogears.

-Ice Cave...Evil Forest, really imaginative names, there!

-And...save. Total time: 2 hours and 13 minutes.

Lol what.

No it is not. If I want my best armour + an ability on inferior armour I will have to equip the piece of shit inferior armour for X amount of battles. Keep in mind I usually finish RPGs on the lower end of the level scale.

Need them for a normal game? No. The way I play I rely on abilities/skills/status effects to win because I make sure my levels are on the low side. It's the only way you get a good game of chess out of these games and thats what im looking for.

I think this is one of the problems of games now, just hinting at more is better then implementing more bland stuff. This goes for story, missions, everything.

I'm not going to do every bland task games have, but if I have the feeling there is something out there I feel better about doing what I do.
