Infinity Ward CoD :yuck

I think Black Ops II is the best Call of Duty since Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, but since when is Infinity Ward the lesser developer? CoD 1, 2, and 4 were all great. When did it switch?

After MW 2 was the whole infinity ward split from Activision. The real Infinity Ward is Respawn with EA.

Maybe you have to kill ghosts. Like the ghost of Hitler is haunting Berlin and the only thing that can kill him is Patton's gun.

MW 2 is a really fun campaign. There is a lot to like in the multiplayer but it was ruined by stuff like nukes, nube toobs, unbalanced weapons. Infinity Ward may have been able to patch that stuff to fix it but we'll never know as the whole break-up happened during that time.

MW 3 was the biggest piece of shit ever. I fucking hate that game with all my heart and soul. The MP in it is the worst thing ever.

Maybe you can get a haunted gun that captures the souls of your enemies after you shoot them. So you really want to hold on to that one SOCOM because whenever you use it you can faintly hear ghosts going "Ooooooooo"

Also, maybe it glows

Here is a million dollar idea I would prefer.

Release COD 4 Director's cut on XBLA/PSN/Steam.

Fix the hacking stuff like in the later editions of COD.
Release it for 20 bucks or something in that vein.
Do a couple of smart balance tweaks needed to any perks or guns like removing Martydom/Last Stand from the game. Fix Host migration.
Release a couple of map packs for it.

Profit.

or do essentially a best of COD Mp game for this gen.
Take the best of and what people like from each game.
Take the best maps, the favorite weapons, the best perks, and rebalance them in relation to each other.

Profit.

I prefer both of those things to Call of Duty Ghosts.

Can't wait to see the crazier ideas when/if the series' sales slow down.  Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero went in weird directions hoping something will stick.  A year or two after that is when stoney's idea of a CoD4-classic would show up.  This is assuming Destiny or another Activision franchise steps up to become the bread winner, and that people will tire of the CoD gameplay.

Mostly I want to see Call of Duty: Generations.  Darkest of Days with a budget.

Xbox3 'exclusive' will be funny. At least as long as its for games I don't care about, and there's still a pc version.

Wii u version will probably happen.  I think only modern warfare 2 skipped the wii; modern warfare 1 released instead.  But modern warfare 3 wii was announced like a week before launch.

As sad as it is, I'd buy it another three times.  :'( CoD4 is probably the best outing of the series this generation. Only downside is the DLC maps weren't really "good" and there wasn't enough maps added since they had to crap out CoD6/MW2 really fast.

I'll watch though and mention if anything seems interesting.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-08-02-activision-blames-low-call-of-duty-ghosts-pre-orders-on-next-gen-hesitation

Preorders are down on Ghosts. While it will still sell big numbers the fatigue that is setting in on the franchise is real. Anecdotally, none of my shooter friends are excited for this title at all. Unfortunate since Black Ops 2 is probably my favorite one.

I don't know if it's that people are tired of CoD or that Ghosts simply doesn't look interesting.  Of what's been shown, it's coming off like the shoddiest CoD since CoD3.

I think its a combination of all that stuff. And the marketing so far has been just the worst for it. It has taken them this long to show mp. You could get away with that back with MW 2 because everybody was feverish about the series and what they were going to do. Now people are just tired of being jerked around.

When the thing most people know about your game is that it has a dog, you've screwed up with your marketing message.

I'll update this with info about what is revealed.

Maps have scripted destructible elements.
Character customization. 20,0000 combinations. You can play as a female.
New Class of Weapons. Marksman rifle.
Dual Render scopes. (Like Red Orchestra)
Point system to choose loadout.
20 new killstreaks.
Squad System. You get 10 characters. You can prestige each of them once which is now how the prestige system works.
No death streaks
New Modes: Cranked (Sounds really stupid), faster crazier TDM mode, Search & Rescue (S&D with revives via dogtags), Squads (bot mode you can play with your squad you've created). There are a number of squad modes. 4 player co-op survival horde style mode.
Corner leaning. No buttons.  Mantling. Knee slide.
Says they will support esports like Black ops 2. Info to be annouced later. There will be a COD championship for 2014 and Ghosts will be on the MLG circuit.
App/Ios support. Stats, Change loadouts during game. Join clans via ios devices.

The thing is honestly I don't even really care about the graphics. A fun game is a fun game regardless of whether the graphics are cutting edge or not. The thing is none of the new features sound really cool to me. IW has a tendency just to toss shit into a game without any sort of reason. The additions Treyarch tend to add, make sense and are generally an attempted response to some flaw or something missing.

I mean I'm with you on the graphics. I'd still play Halo 2 if it was online. Hell I still play BF2 because I love the maps.

But if you're going next gen, well I mean I'm expecting next gen and CoD's supposed to be a top series. And I'm not seeing it.

I'm not a CoD fan and probably not privy to the nuances and whatnot. It's fun, I get that. I've enjoyed my time with the numerous CoD games. Ghost just looks so tired, it's the game all the detractors have accused the series of being. Blops 2 had some new ideas in the sp that surprisingly worked, Blops 1 was well polished and had some new mp modes and general game changes that made sense, and the MW games rightfully lived off MW1.

I just don't see what Ghost is actually doing other then filling the release for the year. And that kind of sucks because BF is right at it's door. BF4 looks great and supposedly will run at 60frames on next gen.

I guess it was stupid to expect the first cross gen CoD to really do something, but hey I did. Gotta wait till the one thats full next gen.

I don't disagree with much of that. I like COD and Battlefield for obviously completely different reasons. Battlefield 4 looks completely sick and DICE seem like they are trying their ass off.

Ghosts is like some lazy shit. And I feel I can say that because I'm not just hating on COD to hate on COD like a lot of forum types do. I like the series. But this seems like a half assed edition. The destruction shit on the maps for instance is so blatantly a gimmick to try to put a feature on the back of the box to match Battlefield 4.

I don't think we'll see a full next gen call of duty for another two or three years.  At some point the last gen version will become the afterthought, like the Wii versions were, or BF3/4 on 360/PS3; 30 fps, lower player count, etc.

I really do like the crazy one man army shit like in BO2 but this game looks too slow-paced for a call of duty game. It doesn't feel visceral enough.

The campaign will probably be a decent enough roller coaster like they generally are, the problem for me tonally is that this one seems to take itself very seriously where as I felt the real infinity ward in COD 4, MW 2, and Treyarch to a lesser degree in the Black Ops series kind of understand these games work best in comic book tones with comic book characters. The marketing for Ghosts though is all somber dirge like music like its some real serious shit.

the muted inception horn at the end of that trailer seems quite fitting.

"yeah, we know this shit's played out, but it's still gonna sell so fuck it"

Back when MW came out I was like "For MW2's bonus mission they should have a mission where you're a soldier on the space shuttle and OH NO IT TURNS OUT THAT A BUNCH OF TERRORISTS HAVE STOWED AWAY IN THE CARGO AREA!"

I wasn't being serious

It's not the crazy stuff in the game that bothers me personally. I'm fine with that stuff.

It's that the fundamental gameplay won't be any different during those sections. It's like a change of scenery just to make something look fresh when its the same old stuff. Like how many times will you do a door breach in Ghosts. It was neat when it was in the first game for the first time. But they are still iterating very minutely on those same tropes.

At least the Black Ops 2 storyline experiments with new stuff. Some of it works and some of it doesn't but it feels like they try more.
