The Banner Saga: Factions
« on: May 06, 2013, 11:03:15 AM »

Anyone into this? It's free to play with purchasable XP boosters, vanity items (color of your characters' clothes)... the usual stuff.

Game seems fun. I like the look of it. It feels awfully slow to get going, but I hope once I understand more how to position units and their various strengths and weaknesses the early game might be enjoyable in a chess-like fashion.

The dudes I've been matched up with have all been nice so far. First one apologized for winning, second one was awfully flirty, so I have high hopes for the rest.

I haven't really heard too much praise for the F2P version of this endeavor, but they may have patched/updated/changes things since it was first released enough for it to be enjoyable.

I avoid F2P games in general, but I might try the full single player version once it's out.

Yeah I'm much more excited for the single player part of this game. Vikingbyen 2 with fighting. sounds fun.

I'm finding this multiplayer kinda brutal to newbz like me. You use 'renown' to upgrade your units, which you get by scoring kills in battle, doing streaks and winning, etc. but if you suck and don't get much going you get jack shit. I played a game and got crushed, scoring only one kill and I got +1 renown. I need, like, 26. Didn't these dudes learn anything from COD :maf

Pretty much all f2p games use that incredibly slow grind. It's the only way to make money by enticing a percentage of people to pay for the extra stuff. Normal games can use a faster progression because you already paid for the extra stuff when you bought the game. The extra stuff is just extra.

This is classic F2P. "You can unlock everything without money! If you're willing to spend 300 hours grinding."

this is my first time free 2 playing you guys. I'd like to think that the game is balanced around the game itself and the boosters & whatnot are for people who wanna jump ahead. I'll play some more tomorrow and see if I can't get some of those unit promotions before I piss and moan about how unfair the world is and all that.
