the sound is a bit fucked. everything seems to be happening far away. gunfire has little weight.

BJ has this running commentary throughout the game, shit like "How many men have died, blown away like scraps of paper from history's dumpster?" (I made that up, but it's pretty close). And then you throw a knife at an armored dog.  :comeon

And the stealth has no indicators, like cones of vision or anything.  You peek around the door of a room and there's just a bunch of nazi dudes standing there. One guy follows a patrol pattern. The rest are just standing there, blankly daydreaming, until you take one step and then suddenly they all jump awake at once and are all over you. Except for the dude following the patrol pattern. He doesn't notice anything. He's on patrol.

So far, 2009 Wolfenstein > 2014 Wolfenstein.  Knowing you're just a goofball shooter and rolling with it helps a lot. Stop trying to make art happen in Wolfenstein. Art is not going to happen in Wolfenstein.

Also, there's a sex scene. No one wants to watch this meathead have sex.   :kobeyuck

this is the kind of shit I'm talking about

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=10152174043071896

It's not a terrible game, there's some fun to be had, but it's only rental fun or $20 Steam sale/Black Friday fun to be sure.

Shooting stuff in this game is really fun, especially when you've got two assault rifles.

I don't know how much more of this I can take. Right now I'm on a fetch quest to find the lost toys of a mentally distinguished mentally-challenged man who looks kind of like Sloth from the Goonies.

This game owned. The fetch quest shit is only a short part of the game, plow through it so you can get to the best part.

I thought the writing was a bit goofy at first but it grew on me and I liked the story/characters. The shoot bang shit is fun as fuck too.

The stealth works pretty well. The first few instances are easy because they're the first few instances. Plus the games AI routines are purposefully nerfed during stealth.

The biggest issue and the issue that bums me out is the sound mixing. it's so awful. everything sounds distant and quiet. the guns look and feel good but SOUND awful.

so I'm stuck in this section where i have to climb up this elevator shaft via a rope/bar and i start climbing and get attacked by drones and enemies above and before i have the time to basically do anything the game *kills* me. I don't get killed by the enemies because i've managed to kill everyone. I literally just die instantly. I pretty much have no idea what the game is meaning for me to do.

bah, fuck it. the game is too buggy to even play. randomly when i load a checkpoint it'll sit there trying to load the assets for the level and the framerate will dive into the single digits and it'll become unplayable. maybe if i reload a few times it works.

I got past the section that was being buggy.

I'm finally starting to see where the Escape from Butcher Bay comparisons come from. There's definitely very light elements of that game in here. Hell, the game even controls very similarly.

I feel like this game has too many not shooting bits. I don't know how to feel about this game. On one hand the shooting is good, but on the other I don't feel anything special about it. Really solid shooting, but I don't know. I just have nothing to say about this game.

If I was going to compare this to 2008's Wolfenstein, I'd say that that one mainly hovered around a solid 7, whereas 2014's Wolfenstein occasionally dips to a disappointing 5 but also sometimes shoots up to around a 9. So there ya go.

I liked 2009. It had some pretty neat enemies like the radioactive skull Nazis and the teleporting serial killer dudes. This one had the same four enemies over and over.
