just been playing Ikaruga and Guardian Heroes. These guys are like some of the best developers of all time, seriously. How did games make like this

People always wax poetic about Ikaruga or Radiant Silvergun, but where is the love for Gradius V? While Ikaruga has it's fanciful polarity switching (which more or less negates dodging) and Radiant Silvergun has it's fanciful anime story and wide weapon set, Gradius V is only a Gradius game trying to be the best little Gradius game it can. But it is very good at that. I think it's far more successful in reaching it's goal than either Ikaruga or Silvergun.

You can lock the options damn it it's like the best feature ever omg

They look pretty and have obvious game mechanics that are easy to gawk at in a superficial manner. Not saying that they don't have depth and challenge, because they do, but only when you play them for high scores. CAVE shoot em ups are also frequently neglected alongside Gradius V.

Sin and Punishment 2 is one of the finest games I played last gen. They have their misses (Stretch Panic, parts of Gunstar Super Heroes) but they are still one of my favorite companies...

Fighting the US military on top of a piece of an aircraft carrier that dizzily spins around, followed by a level taking place in a bug-infested version of the NYC subway (it's still shocking to me that Japanese people know what the hell Long Island is!), to defending Earth against an evil clone of itself... this is "serious stuff"?

eh but it's not "ride a cat who ride a missile while escaping from a werewolf on a motorcycle" level of stupid,and besides i just don't like game a-la starfox,the perspective really fuck with me and most of the time it feels like i'm zipping randomly on the screen

ikaruga is in the game that i don't get pile too,i tought being a classic sidescroller i would dig it but i played it for 10 minutes on GC and could never get past stage 2 because of those stupid moving thingie,i could have persevered but it sort of feels like those arcade gamey where you spend more time learning and dying than actualy playing and i just couldn't get into it... alas i will have to give up my hardcore gamer badge forever now :'(

one treasure game i always wanted to try but never could was silhouette mirage,was it any good?

Gradius V is Treasure's best shooter.

pretty decent but not as good as their more famous games. play the japanese version, U.S. version has changes that take away from the fun.

I emulated Radiant Silvergun in 2009 or some shit. Seemed to run fine. Was never really all that fussed about that game tho.

A really underrated Treasure title is Bangai-O Spirits. One of my favorite games for ds.

You can get a slightly enhanced version on XBLA for 800points.

yes, Saturn emulation is solid these days. There's SSF and another one I'm forgetting. And Radiant Silvergun is on XBLA (PSN?).

I've had a lot of trouble getting into Spirits, but I loved the N64 and DC Bangai-O games. I wasn't too keen on the more puzzle-y aspect of Spirits or the XBLA game.

this is a 5-star thread aside from shitting on rs. game wasnt perfect but it definitely is fantastic and stands up there with all of treasures other greats.

I may be one of the only people on the planet who actually liked Advance Guardian Heroes, though granted it's no where near a patch on the Saturn/XBLA game. Thought the counter added a nice dimension to the gameplay.

are they working on anything now that's publicly known? I would think after this gen's success in porting their hits to XBLA and the original works they've made that they have some cash in the bank and at least something interesting in the oven.

well I've more or less stopped paying shitty games now (not forcing myself to play Kinect dreck anymore). Last shitty game I played was Walking Dead.

Now I'm only playing awesome shit like CASTLEVANIA and GUARDIAN HEROES

Have to know what to blather about on here. I played Otomedius Excellent enough to be able to 1cc but didn't really mention it much at all. Also 1ccing that game isn't even remotely impressive, I can't do that shit with any of the bullet hell-y stuff.
