No it doesn't. Unless you say because its built into PS3 it makes it so.

There's something like 300,000 stand-alone players, how many did laser disk sell?

ALSOOOO

PS3 is meaningless even if it sells as much as PS2. Standalone DVD player sales in USA is 125 millilon. PS2? 37 million.

I like how the REAL point of HDDVD/BluRay isnt so much to BLOW THE DOORS OF HOME THEATERS, but rather to load so many extras they they will load ANYTHING on the disc to get attention.

Its not even like the difference between HDDVD and DVD is THAT huge. Ive seen HDDVD on a 50+ inch sony hdtv, and the only PRACTICAL reason I can see to moving to HDDVD is to get the same quality I got from DVD on my SDTV. Progressive players do an OK job, but they DO look 'worse' on an HDTV. So what, I buy an HDDVD/BluRay player so movies look like they used to.

Am lol. wtf.

Well obviously, the jump from DVD to HD media isn't as great as VHS to DVD was.

Rest assured companies will make up a new bogus format after HD-DVD/BR just to get people to buy new players and rebuy their favorite movies to enjoy a whole "INVISIBLE TO THE NAKED EYE BUT STILL THERE!!!!!111" jump in quality. >:(

I already suspect more tv sets are being released on double sided DVDs all of a sudden to get people to 'move to the format where its all on one side!'

God damn ive seen more new flipflop dvds in the past year than I had seen for two.

Blu-Ray will be alive for as long as PS3 is successful (can I say successful yet?)
But it's going to fail as a hi-def movie format.

Especially if HD-DVD gets porn!  :o

Whatever, fuck 'em both.

I'll tell you what, all of this HD stuff pisses me off. Once 1080p becomes standard it better STAY THAT WAY for YEARS. People are not going to keep buying into new technology every 5 years. They're not even doing it for movie discs. I mean do the people behind this realize Joe Consumer is not going to be able to constantly afford all of your new technology? You need Joe Consumer, he's vital to your success. You can't keep dicking around with new specifications to the hardware that requires you to purchase new TV's for thousands of dollars just a few years after you bought your $1000+ 720p or 1080p set.

Yeah it's cool to like your hdtv, I'm just saying, won't you be a bit pissed off if in like five years they have 84357345p and you would then be expected to buy one as they phase out all 1080p sets?

Like I said, even if PS3 is as big as PS3(highly unlikely) it wont make much differences. PS2's sales numbers are non-existant compared to stand alone dvd player sales.

Regardless how well a system sales standalone players MUST take off for the format to survive and be a hit. Gaming is nowhere near as big as the DVD market.

Batman Begins for sure.

I love my HD DVD's.  In fact, I love all my HD movies.  Some of them are really half ass, however, some of the first DVD's were really half ass.  The content and transfers will get better.  Watch Batman Begins and you cannot tell me the jump is small.

Now? Definitely worthless.

Two or three years from now? It might be worth it. Unlikely, but possible.
