So, wait. Those are polygonal models? O.O

I'm not into this series, but I've always been fond of the cheese metal soundtracks.

i really don't get the adulation i'm seeing on gaf about the graphics.  ok, it's neat cel shading or whatever...I feel like Tales models and all kinds of animu games accomplished the same thing.

Both the designs and the fucking terrible animation in that trailer both remind me of HD Remix.

Unreal Engine! Oh, the shame of using filthy gaijin middleware

I don't like the chunky design either, but the models look like they're proper 2D. Usually it's quite apparent that it's polygonal, but I had to take a double take here. Valkyria Chronicles did it pretty well too, so did Cyber Connect's Naruto games, but this seems like it's one step beyond those.

That is such a fuckin weird way to do it. Basically they're doing it all in polygons but doing NO animation interpolation, so even though the game is internally running at 60fps, characters are maybe updating at variable frame rates (most likely 15fps or 30fps depending on the animation) just like they're animated in 2D.

I guess they are trying to keep the frames of the moves and hitboxes intact?.

The animation part of it looks alright (arguably great even), but the udon bit is very annoying. Arc's style is so lovely in a ugly, bombastic fashion whereas udon just kinda looks like lovingly crafted doodles from the desk of a second year art student.

watch it again, that char animation is terrible.  But it's basically the same as GGX2 so maybe they have to keep it that way for esoteric guilty gear reasons that only the 10 people who play it understand.
