The IGN stream just said you have to pay to transfer your gamerscore to the Xbox One.

To play a game you just bought for the Xbox One you need an active internet connection to install and play the game. You cannot start a game without an active internet connection. Much like Steam when you put the disc in the drive it reaches out to the internet and ties the game to your account then installs it. Games cannot be played without an install.

Lemme say that again.

You cannot play games on this without an active internet connection.
Single player games will continue to work if you happen to lose your internet connection.

No fucking way.  I don't believe that shit because it's connected across all MS stuff already if you use your Live ID.  PC, phone, tablet and xbox.  Unless they make you start a new account that makes no sense.

sauce?

i saw it on SA

Wired asked Microsoft if installation would be mandatory. “On the new Xbox, all game discs are installed to the HDD to play,” the company responded in an emailed statement. Sounds mandatory to us.

What follows naturally from this is that each disc would have to be tied to a unique Xbox Live account, else you could take a single disc and pass it between everyone you know and copy the game over and over. Since this is clearly not going to happen, each disc must then only install for a single owner.

Microsoft did say that if a disc was used with a second account, that owner would be given the option to pay a fee and install the game from the disc, which would then mean that the new account would also own the game and could play it without the disc.

There was an account migration required from the first Xbox to the 360 for Live. MS could just be charging for this one.

well, it makes sense, how else would it tag to your system

even if it's only for ten seconds, it still has to connect to lock the game down

So this fee HAS to be a full price of a title, or else, you can sell your friends your used games at a discount. This instantly kills off using stuff like gamefly because the price will automatically be the price of a full game.

or a rental fee

Despite the system not requiring it, developers will be able to create games that will not play offline. Wired reports that games will be able to hook into Microsoft's Azure cloud services with a lack of offline support, but there is no requirement for them to do so yet. A second part to the always online rumor was some type of activation system that prevents used games. Microsoft says it's "designing Xbox One to enable customers to trade in and resell games," and promises to offer more details in future. Wired has some additional details, noting that secondary use of a game disc will require a fee so that it will be marked and owned and can be played without the disc — something the Xbox One supports natively.

The thing that pisses me off the most about this and previous Xbox conferences is they're like SPORTS! SPORTS! SPORTS! but the one thing people wanna be able to do is stream live sporting events and that's the one thing THEY'RE NEVER GOING TO LET YOU DO because of networks and bullshit. At best, you can pay a pantload of money for an app and watch live (non-playoff) games and still get blacked out of local games. But wow, you can get fantasy league updates in real-time, omg! Because there's no way I could have done that before the Xbox 1 was invented.

It's over, period. MS lost used games, and that's the end of their Xbox hopes and dreams.

It's not hyperbole, it's not fanboy drivel. It is LITERALLY it for Xbox. Xbox has nothing left, nothing they can reveal now would fix the hole created. There is no reason left for any one, hardcore or casual, to substantively invest in a Xbox One. Except if they want to play Halo 5. Which will also come to PC at some point.

The age of Xbox is done.

The next question is, will it work if you have the Kinect plugged in but facing a wall so it can't see anything?

Or must it always be watching you. :o

It seems I took what I considered basic fearures for granted with my Wii U.  No bc and essentially no lending games AND having to pay for a gold subscription on top of all this bs is a joke and a farce.  I conjecture that although sony hasn't been brazen about it, they have a similar setup just based on how they have been beating around the bush (we already know nothing carries over to ps4 as far as bc is concerned).

The thing is though, Microsoft can still carve out a niche like they have always done via brute force and the backing of the bigger publishers.  I can't see Sony flourishing in the business going by their current prospects.  Anyone advocating pc are in for a surprise if the One missteps, though, as without being subsidized by console sales, AAA won't be able to sustain itself anywhere.

Yes I'm concern trolling, but so is everyone else today so I get a turn too.

just hold on to yer butts for a few years and it will have fallen in price and there might be something fun to pick up at dirt prices.

No one with brains bought a wii and then sat there pining for every good release. they bought a wii a couple of years ago and plowed through a bunch of good stuff that was had at bargain bin prices. Shit I didn't even pay for my wii, a crestfallen motherfucker loaned it to me and forgot about it as quick as he could.
