It seems I took what I considered basic fearures for granted with my Wii U.  No bc and essentially no lending games AND having to pay for a gold subscription on top of all this bs is a joke and a farce.

The Wii U also saves you a ton of money on your electricity bills, not because it is super efficient but because it gives you no reason to turn it on.

To further the possibilities of connectivity with the Xbox One, Microsoft announced its first handheld after the conference.

I give you...the E-Rolodex!

Perfect for that on-the-go man who needs the power of the xbox everywhere he goes.  Uses the edge network infrastructure, so you don't have to worry about connection problems like you do with your car phone.  Just imagine, after you get out of the shower and douse yourself in Lagerfield Photo, having the New York Times at the tip of your fingers on the stunning 2.5 inch color screen!   Send dinner reservation requests with over 20 restaurant chains across the U.S. who have agreed to partner up with Microsoft.  And when you've finally got some downtime, jam out to one of 16 hot pre-loaded tracks from the likes of REO Speedwagon, Stryper, Kenny G, and more!  Watch for 1 new track at the end of each trimester!  Hold on to your suspenders and toupee, the E-Rolodex will blow you away because it's radical, dude.

What if they all move to Nintendo and usher in an age of enlightenment/2012 era tech console to replace the WiiU.

It seems I took what I considered basic fearures for granted with my Wii U.  No bc and essentially no lending games AND having to pay for a gold subscription on top of all this bs is a joke and a farce.  I conjecture that although sony hasn't been brazen about it, they have a similar setup just based on how they have been beating around the bush (we already know nothing carries over to ps4 as far as bc is concerned).

The thing is though, Microsoft can still carve out a niche like they have always done via brute force and the backing of the bigger publishers.  I can't see Sony flourishing in the business going by their current prospects.  Anyone advocating pc are in for a surprise if the One missteps, though, as without being subsidized by console sales, AAA won't be able to sustain itself anywhere.

Yes I'm concern trolling, but so is everyone else today so I get a turn too.

the impact of any troll is severely reduced the moment they admit to buying a wii u.

Dude, I left the gaming industry 2 months ago. The writing on the wall's been clear for years. Momma didn't raise no fool!

I'm living high on the hog now, with enough cash to buy all the next-gen gaming consoles--and enough sense to buy none of the next-gen gaming consoles.

So let's see. Forced online activation, limited used game sales, "cloud computing", kinect mandatory, worse specs than PS4, always listening, no component out, "cable" is just an HDMI overlay, hard drive not user replaceable, system is a brick with no internet after 24 hours, and xbox live gold still costs $.

Oh but it has FIFA ultimate team and Forza 5.

Live TV requires an add-on:

http://www.kotaku.com.au/2013/05/xbox-ones-live-tv-will-not-be-available-in-australia-at-launch-requires-a-separate-device/

Quote
Specifically, the press release states, in the small print that…

At launch, Live TV will require a supported receiver device with HDMI output (sold separately).

And, before that:

Live TV with Kinect navigation, Live TV with OneGuide, Trending, and NFL on Xbox available in U.S. at launch; anticipating global scale over time.

So not only do you have to have a connection to activate a game, you must also connect to the internet every 24 hours.

Quote
Kotaku: If I’m playing a single player game, do I have to be online at least once per hour or something like that? Or can I go weeks and weeks?

Harrison: I believe it’s 24 hours.

Kotaku: I’d have to connect online once every day.

Harrison: Correct.

DAILY INTERNET CONNECTION REQUIRED FOR OFFLINE PLAY

Kotaku: I’d have to connect online once every day.

Harrison: Correct.

So the system is built to work even if your Internet connection goes down, but you still have to be connected at least once a day to use it, Harrison said. We're not sure exactly what would happen if you don't connect once per day—and that timeframe could change—but this doesn't sound good for anyone who was hoping to use Xbox One without an Internet connection.

I, for one, cannot be happier about how terrible this is looking. I absolutely despise the Xbox Live paywall, paid DLC (that was introduced with Halo 2), and many other antics associated with MS anti-consumer behavior in general.

The fact that even Xbox 360 owners are thinking on skipping on the Xbox One makes me hope for MS eventually going out of the gaming business and focusing on other entertainment.

I recall one of the rumors said the Xbox One would be HDMI only.  Doesn't seem to be anywhere for composite/component cables; can't imagine why you'd buy an Xbox One if you're still on an SDTV.  Optical audio is there.  Rumors said it wouldn't be...or that might've been Wii U.

2.4ghz again? basically, how am I gonna connect it to my PC?

oh, and the controller still uses AA batteries, just without the bulge.  And there's something about using 5.1 headsets through the controller's headset jack without an amp.

Honestly, as much as it disappoints me, the no BC should've been seen coming after the PS4 reveal. Both previous consoles were PPC and not x86. It shouldn't surprise anyone they aren't going to support the previous gen.

But the rest of it is a mountain of shit. Good lord.  :lol

Xbox One will have a smaller section than the PC games currently do.

If it even has a section. I doubt they'll support this move and dedicate only "new" sections the size of that PC space and maybe push out the section entirely for Wii U and PS4.

Though really, Valve should get started on pushing those Steam cards that are Gamestop exclusive right now to Wal-mart/et. al. so they're out in the wild like PSN and MS point cards. A bunch of people on the internet are "fuck this I'm going PC" but I really wonder how many want to dedicate their credit card to that. Valve could get a bunch of casuals on board with Steam if people were like "hey, you don't really have to have a credit card. Just get a Steam Wallet card and add that fund to your Steam Wallet instead!"
