Diunx, do you have an hdtv? How much do they cost in your country? Could you go out and buy one NOW like most of us could do in our countries?

Don't have a HDTV and I couldn't go out and buy one, they are not as expensive as they used to be but are still much more expensive than in the states.

Looking at a mother's day offer in the paper the cheapest one in that store is US$380.

The biggest problem for me to rationalize a new Xbone purchase is my backlog of 360 games, and the amount of time I spend tablet-gaming now.

Remember the time Himuro was using S-Video for his PS3?  Good times.

Also Microsoft doesn't give a fuck about people who have anything other than HDMI because people who have TVs with HDMI are probably more likely to buy shit on a regular basis vs. the Diunxes of the world who are just going to pirate/redbox/gamefly shit anyway.  The Xbox One is a middle finger to anyone who doesn't have lots of disposable income to throw around and they're assuming that people that do have that kind of discretionary income are going to make it rain.

Except Europeans have a lot of disposable income, but none of the media services that MS is talking about make sense there.

So if MS would like to see that hard EURO currency they would have to change their game.

Has MS enabled HDCP for X1 games?

If they haven't,then some $50 HDMI to whatever converter will do the trick.360 HDMI has no HDCP for games, unlike PS3 btw.HDMI is a good thing(one cable to rule them all), but gimped by lame copy protection thing.

is it possible to buy a television from a store that doesn't have hdmi in this day and age?

I certainly couldn't around here. Even junkiest stuff has hdmi.

you have to admit, it *is* kind of funny that component/composite cable support lasted just one generation longer than RF adaptor support.

on the xbox

ps4 still supports analog output

Himu complaining about hdmi only is funny to me. I can't remember the last time I went into a home that didn't have at least one hdtv. And they really aren't expensive to get anymore.

it's not about HDTVs in the U.S.  It's about other parts of the world where people don't get the deals we get on electronics.

yeah, I don't believe HDMI-only is huge deal, but I can relate to the scenario Oscar laid out.  I had to daisy chain RF adapters well into 2003 or 04.  At the same time, this is going to be a $500 to $600 box, and I can't imagine anyone buying it at launch, or even at that price point, will be affected by this.  And it sounds like Microsoft wants to position the Xbox 360 as the cheaper alternative, or something along those lines.

I can't remember if people were upset when the 360 didn't have an HDMI option back in 2005.  PS3 was the first electronic device I bought that supported it, and I had to buy the relatively expensive HDMI cable because cheap ass Sony only included composite cables with my $599 HD gaming console.

Or when Microsoft only supported broadband with the original Xbox and it didn't really matter.

I remember that I actually had to go to my grandparents when I got my N64 cause they had a component capable tv. Had to buy the rd adapter to get it going on my 15 inch tv  :lol

Not sure how HDMI only would affect the german market. Many people including me don't have an HDTV (honestly, besides watching the occasional football game there isn't much on free tv that it would be worth investing for) but those that generally are interested in a new console probably have an hdmi capable tv.

I'm just not seeing the benefit from the massive football fan of owning a XO. Unless each console comes with a subscription to the NFL sunday ticket? Which is DirecTV only, so if you have a different cable provider, thats a no?

Whats the draw here?

Unless they're drastically upping the price of XBL, they won't include a Sunday Ticket subscription with the console. For one, DirectTV would throw an epic fit as they paid $1 billion for that and charge non-Dtv Subscribers about $300 a year for it.

Exactly. MS payed less than half ($400m) of that, there's no fucking way they get access to Sunday Ticket. At the best Xbox One owners will be getting highlight videos of games, maybe even halftime highlights. Along with the fantasy football stuff.

I'm an avid fantasy football player but see no point in the Xbox One shit. I check my iPod to see how my team and league are doing, and I browse ESPN for other info.

I imagine it with like this at the NFL:

Marketing: "Hey Microsoft wants to pay us $400 million to repurpose Red Zone on their new Xbox."

Goodell: "Really? Are they stupid?"

Marketing: "I guess so"

Goodell: "Well what do we get out of it other than sweet Microsoft money?"

Marketing: "They'll give all the coaches free Surface tablets."

Goodell: "DEAL!"

It's highlights, fantasy football stats, and group Skype calls during a game.

In exchange the NFL will put Microsoft signs in stadiums and all coaches will be using Surface tabs as their playbook.

Red Zone=whenever a team gets inside 20yds of the end zone, the channel takes you to the game; basically you're watching the end of scoring (or turnover) drives all around the league, not the actual full game. As Manabyte said most cable companies already offer it.

Red Zone is about $70/yr as a part of the Comcast sports package. Why would a non-gamer pay an XBL sub on top of that?
