Unless things have dramatically changed since the last time I was back home, a very large amount of Gamestops don't have internet connections.  But the Azure cloud thing explains it. 

Now, the better question is, why the fuck would Gamestop agree to any of this? 

God, these game companies are greedy fucks.  Doctrine of first sale applies to everyone except their special snowflake asses.  I hope the whole fucking parade of suits that came up with this horseshit (and all the other crap that's ruined the fucking industry) end up answering for all of this when the dust settles, instead of getting away scot-free while the largely blameless developers are left holding the bag of flaming dogshit.

I hope, but I know otherwise.

I'm starting to suspect the machinations on display here where the impasse that Nintendo and EA had reached.   Historically, I never saw any kind of anticonsumer stuff from Activision (they just kill what doesn't work) and Ubisoft (except for pc drm?), but this whole thing stinks of EA sitting down with the console manufacturers and giving them brilliant ideas to combat the scapegoats they had built up without addressing the fundamental budgeting issues they refused to curtail for so long.

Sony is far too cheap and broke to set up their own "Azure Cloud" activation servers for publishers to use, right?

Just realized something mind-blowing. EA Origin's DRM is more permissive than Xbox One's DRM. You can go offline mode for weeks at a time on Origin and Steam, while Xbox Live reportedly needs a 24 hour check. That means you're better off buying Mass Effect 4 or w/e on your PC than your Xbox One if you have spotty internet.

The Xbox One's heavy reliance on the Kinect for voice commands will eventually include two-way conversations, according to two sources who tested out the still-in-development feature.

In one possible scenario, Kinect used its facial recognition to scan a room full of people and note if there was someone in the room it didn't recognize. It then told the console owner that there is someone in the room it didn't recognize and asked the new person to identify themselves. Once the person said their name, Kinect welcomed them and saved their information to the console.

Xbox One's ability to speak will allow it to function more like the iPhone's Siri, according to Microsoft officials who presented the feature. The voice may not be available at the console's launch, but if it isn't it will be added in a post launch patch within the first few months.

Before that idiot MANABYTE comes and posts, this is AWFUL news as much as people hate gamestop. Gamestop bought all of the competition, so gamestop IS the game store now. Gamestop also brings mainstream attention to games, employs a shit load of people, and sells undeniably the most games out of any single retailer. If Gamestop goes that is a massive hit on the games industry in regards to exposure and sales. Gamestop says that most used game trade ins go towards the purchase of a new game!

Hoping they'll bounce back from this.

The unveiling of the Xbox One was not an opening salvo against this motley of heterogeneous competition, but instead a champagne-popping ceremony at what is the beginning of the end. By packaging all these extraordinary capabilities so elegantly and by leading with such length in every facet, Microsoft has practically won the war for the soul of the living room already. All that remains is to see how competitors will exist in the shadow of Microsoft's new world order, and to find out what innovation they'll come up with next.

And the point, which you are missing with all your stupid complaints, is that the Xbone is not competing with any other console or device because . . . I say so and use words like existential and heterogeneous.

A friend of mine who writes for a big Xbox site mentions strong rumors of MS unveiling an exclusive Japanese RPG for the system. Really hope that this isn't Lost Odyssey 2, I don't want to buy Xbone and that game would probably sell me on one
