Actually dudes & dudettes, at the conference this morning they confirmed what we all figured was going on with the franchise, the Osaka KH team is making KH3.
Here's how it goes:
Main Tokyo team (under Nomura) : KH1 -> KH2 -> Versus fffffuuuuuucccckkkkkk *cough**cough* -> FFXV
Newly formed Osaka team (still under Nomura supervision): KH BBS -> KH 3DS -> KH1.5 -> KH2.5 -> KH3
Now note that KH1.5/2.5 are like 3 dudes in the studio porting. The team took 3 years and made Birth by Sleep (the best game in the series from gameplay & story-perspective), then were rushed by SE to make KH 3DS in 1.5 years (and it was ok, but not great; could feel the rush), and since finishing 3DS they've moved on to KH3 because they've shown they're just as talented, if not more, than the Tokyo team with BBS.
Since the Osaka team actually KNOWS HOW TO MAKE GAMES IN SORT OF TIMELY EFFICIENT MANNER, there's no reason to think they can't crank KH3 out in 3 years from 3DS's 2012 finish, so 2015 sounds perfectly reasonable.
Now hopefully if the Tokyo team STOPS BEING FUCKUPS after messing around for 7 years and FFXV comes out fall/winter 2014, and then KH3 is summer/fall/winter 2015...it'd get SE back on the right track next generation. Meanwhile the Kitase/Toriyama ;_; main FF team (especially with all their best staff having been freed up now that FFXIV is almost done rebooting) can start on FFXVI now and hopefully have it ready for fall 2016. It's a very reasonable schedule, especially since SE has their engine fooling around done and is actually making games for this new generation instead of tinkering with engines for years.
Let's see if they can pull it off and get back to the studio that people actually cared about in the PS2 and early gen.
