Vanille is objectively the worst FF character.

In a world where Selphie and Zell exist?  HAIL NO.

Wait, you said character, not even party member... oh god, too many possibilities... have I repressed enough of the truly awful NPCs over the years?  Hopefully.

Vanille is VOICE ACTED. Therefore SHE WINS.

From the 3 hour mark they're showing a bunch of gameplay of it. Looks hot. Dunno how to do the timestamp/mark thing.

Except that was a mockup and this is obviously real gameplay since it's jumping all over the place showing fights.

Looks awesome and I wish the game had a real parry like MGS:R but yeaaaah that was QTE  :lol

Looks fun, I'm more interested in the end bits where he's slamming heads into cars and fighting barehanded.  The more variety in combat the better.  Looks like you can call in your two partners and use their weapons.  Would be cool if you get a party like a normal FF of like 6-9 people and then you make a party of 3 and use their attacks/weapons to hit weakpoints.

"Details from Nomura on the livestream.

-They shifted the game to next-gen and made it a mainline title due to the scale/scope.
-The game is an action RPG, but there are command system elements in the game.
-Noctis is "not cool inside" and not a cool dude, but a quirky dude.
-Party members are a core part of Final Fantasy, so there is a party in this game.
-Noctis can teleport himself into the sky. Though he's not a gravity wizard, Noctis does not fall at a Newtonian rate for gameplay purposes.
-The current generation console versions were canceled about a year ago. They're still working to improve the graphics on the next-gen version.
-They are making games in DirectX 11 on PC and then porting them to the PS4 and Xbox One since they can handle that. They can consider any platform that support high end DirectX 11 level hardware functionality and horsepower. (Hey Square, that DX11 PC dev platform you mentioned earlier can run this! Just saying!)"

Meh, I really don't want Kingdom Hearts combat in a FF game. Right now this looks very automated and QTE heavy. That's not what I'm playing a jrpg for.

Should have stayed a spin-off.

Graphics and art look top tier though.

I don't see what's wrong with one game that's action rpg. The next FF likely won't be an action rpg either. each new ff has a new language to get used to. :patel

Also, a full on action FF is refreshing. I'm excited.

fuck that weak ass menu heavy shit. KH was the future of the JRPG its just that people didnt realize it :bow

active gaming :bow

fluidity :bow

interactive worlds :bow
Does KH have those things? And while combat has gotten better with each installment(as far as I'm aware, I've only played 1-2-BBS). It's still pretty simple and meh combat. With two being the worst offender with mash until you can press triangle combat. BBS has the best combat and I'm pretty sure that's not the team making this one. The KH2 team is.

And interactive worlds? Do people believe KH games have good level design? They have quite possibly the most bland and dull levels in jrpgs.

I really never got why KH was popular and I've tried three times and failed.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. Before that it was Dragon Quest VI, Radiant Historia (caught up after my ds broke), and Ys Origin. You're listing all of these console jrpgs that are years old when everyone that is a jrpg fan plays the genre on handhelds.

You bring up Persona 4 Golden when I don't even have a Vita. Since you don't know that much how in the world would you expect me to believe you know what jrpg fans are playing besides the very sporadic console game? Have you even played TWEWY? Or any Atlus DS title? Or an an Ys? This is rich coming from you Borys. :punch :teehee

What kind of FF fan am I? The lapsed kind. Which is why I'm so damn happy with how XV is turning out.

It's true console jrpgs haven't been plentiful, but I am kind of tired of the sentiment that it's some wasteland. Plenty of decent ones, even without dipping into the kiddie pool.

I don't have a handheld, but have been pretty satisfied.

You say that but it is true.

How many worthwhile console jrpgs are there this Gen? I can count them on one hand and that's without having played Xenoblade or TLR (yet). People are wetting their pants for goddamn Tales because a fucking Tales game delivered arguably the best console jrpg of the generation. That is how low our standards have fallen Beezy.

So we are at the end of the console Gen and the jrpgs I have too look forward to are....Tales, Ni No Kuni, and...Lightning Returns? :rofl

Well it looks like KH, breh. It looks like you have contextual input commands ala KH in real time. The big problem is that the UI doesn't tell you what's a qte or not. So a lot of qte stuff looks like gameplay. It's not so confusing if you've played KH. You lock on, and then you do the teleport thing. Notice how he has to lock on to get to the behemoth at that one part.

I don't get why people care if Versus has a number or not.  The game was still going to come out, the same staff would be on it, and the next mainline FF would still be in the pipeline for the same release date, only that will now be called FFXVI instead of FFXV.

there were some decent jrpgs on consoles this last gen, but comparing psp/ds to home consoles is like comparing ps2 to gamecube.

if you have a dysfunction that prevents you from enjoying games just because they're on handhelds, that's unfortunate.  it ranks up there with the dysfunction that prevents people from enjoying games that are on non-nintendo hardware in terms of tragic outcomes.

and it's only going to get worse if you're a jrpg fan.  what was once a 30-70 console/handheld split is going to quickly become 5-60-25 console/handheld/smartphone in the coming gen.
Its a dysfunction to have a preferences for consoles?

well it was kind of silly of them to have a bajillion of FF13 spinoff that didn't have anything to do with each other at all to begin with, and it's kind of silly the next big FF title is a spinoff game that required more than 5 years to happen

I'm sorry guys but that is the first time I've been wowed by FF visuals since forever. FFXII and FFFXIII looked good. Great even. But this impressed me more than when I saw FFVII the first time. The sense of scale in that final Leviathan shot in the game play trailer? Holy shit.

More than that, the art doesn't look like the dog shit in XIII. On every board I read people are saying they see stuff from their favorite FF. "Holy shit, VI vibes!" "This art reminds me of ViI." Meanwhile people even think the art reminds them somewhat of IX and XII due to the architecture. I personally am reminded of VIII. I find it fascinating they've done this. It is like a culmination of all FF art to this point. It has pizazz and cool and its pretty too.

I see people bitching it is an action rpg and it is a DMC clone. I fart on them. Look at that battle trailer. FF is starting to lose a hold on players and has less name power than it did in the past especially after XIII and 14. This game is what FF needs to be a household name again.

If you followed my posts over the years you'd remember how I thought FFXIII looked absolutely boring in trailers. I even argued with friends on Square fan site I visit over the art many times. I thought it looked uninspired and boring. I watch that FFXV trailer and I'm the complete fucking opposite. I WANT TO PLAY IT NOW due to the actual product and what it is rather than out of obligation due to name power. I haven't said that about an FF product in over ten years.

New thread for new news I guess. There's a new Jump scan floating around with descriptions of the main party in the game, and the Japanese voice cast for the characters (which is also in the Japanese press release for the game).

Noctis Lucis Caelum (Tatsuhisa Suzuki)
Prince of the Lucis Kingdom, possessing eyes which can sense the death of others. His close friends call him Noct.

Ignis Scientia (Mamoru Miyano)
The eldest son of a household tasked with protecting the royal family from generation to generation. A close friend of Noctis who is closer to him than a true brother.

Gladiolus Amicitia (Kenta Miyake)
A childhood friend of Noctis who grew up recieving gifted education befitting a staff officer. He understands Noctis well and is his confidant.

Prompto Argentum (Tetsuya Kakihara)
A friend who has been a bad influence to Noctis since his school days. While he can get carried away easily, there's another side of him which is driven to help friends in need.

Cor Rionis (Hiroki Touchi)
Head of Royal Family Guards, and one of the three strongest fighters in Lucis. While he is harsh to Noctis and the others, he is a true man of honor who takes his vows to king and country very seriously.

The characters are also the ones on the key visual poster they showed at the Future of FF media briefing. From left to right it's Prompto, Gladiolus, Noctis, Ignis, and Cor:
