Surprisingly, Himuro, it is fucking possible to like FFXIII and a good chunk of the fanbase still does.

Very glad to be hearing positive impressions of the Lightning Returns demo. :)

I like XIII too. I like every FF main series entry. However, I hold no quarter in regards to XIII's mediocrity.

In any case I'm no longer interested in talking about that boring slog of a game. Lots of good news on the XV front. No reason to bring up XIII.

IIj was weird. I didn't like it, but I did beat it. Music was good though. All of it was really depressing, like a Cure album.

Tidus sacrifices himself, reconciles himself with his father (and gives him a high five in the far plane aka heaven), Yuna puts on a brave face, addresses all the people of their victory but to never forget the sacrifices. Considering that the entire basis of Yuna's journey is that she has to sacrifice herself to save the world, the fact the man she loved did it in her stead was a beautiful cap off. FFX has one of gamings greatest endings and it illogical to say you're a cigarillo if you're emotional towards one ending but THAT OTHER ENDING is totally okay. The truth is that we are all fegs. I dunno. I really like the dialogue system also it is the first story based FF, so it is interesting to see how everything is created. Also, FFII nes is the only bad version. FFII psx and gba fares much better. In fact FFII gba is a stark contrast to FFI gba. FFII psx and gba are much better balanced and are great games. Being an FF1 vet I found Advance the worst version and beat it without dying once (well, I died on Garland but just once). Horrible. I still think FF ORIGINS is the definitive nes FF experience.

oh look, a new dungeon
oh look, a thousand doors in this hallway
oh look, all but one lead nowhere and have 2 forced battles each
oh look, im turning this game off because its a boring piece of shit

ff2 gba is the only playable one because of quicker leveling, but the game is all dungeons and they are all terrible so :trash is where this game goes

FF2 is not very fun to play at all but it had some cool ideas. I liked the storyline and the nonlinearity, absolutely hated the dungeon design (lots of doors that would lead to nothing but a forced encounter) and busted leveling-up system. 3 was definitely the best of the 8 bit FF games by faaaaaaar.

I really need to stop visiting anime fourms.

Apparently it's a terrible thing this game so far only has male party members. That the absence of "cute girls" means it's a Fujoshi whatever game. That it sucks that you can't make your party a harem of cute girls.

I really don't get it. I've really never looked at these games as anything like that.

Also, apparently it's also anti-feminism or nonsense now. It's trying to appeal to western gamers because it has not female characters.

I believe the 1st part because it's a usual trend in animu/game and Japanese TV/music etc.

As for the 2nd, I don't think Japan give a single fuck about this feminism bullshit going on with the western video games media.

We need more hero/playable character deaths in rpgs, western or eastern.  If it's too much it just feels cliche, but these days everything's way too safe and everyone's invincible because "omg sequel possibility".  I miss FFT "oh fuck, everyone dies in the end" endings once in a while that used to surprise.

I guess FFXIII sort had some of that stuff in the end but the story was so trash no one cared.

We also just need more AWESOME leads who are likeable charismatic people.  Zach in Crisis Core was ridiculously well written to be an awesome dude which makes the story more tragic.  Same with like Yuri in Shadow Hearts 1&2.  Or Yuri in Vesperia (though he was a bit emo especially in the 2nd half).  Too many rpg leads are shitty unlikeable characters these days...

I like Noctis though so far.  Seems like he's having fun with his bros, and knows how to dress himself properly and spends good time on his hair product...oh wait.  I dunno, seems more hopefully than "I HAVE NO EMOTION AND I JUST ALWAYS LOOK PISSED OFF" Lightning or "I'm happy and giddy and have about as much depth as a 3 year old" Sora.

no,no,no,no

you can do so much with an RPG overframe and you want more melodramatic game a-la tales and nier? kill a hero so the party can mourn it for the remaining 2 hours? fuck no! and a double middle finger to you when you kill a character just to have him magicaly resurrect 5 minutes later

if anything we need in the following order

1) actual rpg
2) actual rpg that aren't made by image epoch and/or idea factory
3) games that break from the stupid baggage of trope that jrpg carry around like a chainball

Haven't liked a jrpg lead since Yuri in ToV. jrpg leads suck balls now.

Who said kill a hero so the party can mourn for two hours? We're talking about leads dying in endings. :beli The only jrpg I can think of where the lead dies midway was Chrono Trigger, and you can revive Crono. There's also Serph in DDS2, but he gets revived as well, in a way. Please stand on the other side of the room whlie Bebpo and I get our geek on.

Jesus Christ I'm amazed at Magus' lack of reading comprehension in that post. Amazed so hard that I have to triple post, seriously. Bebpo is talking about characters dying in ENDINGS. Magus brings up characters being revived five minutes later or being mourned for hours on end. Good lord, this must be a goddamn language barrier.

You don't need to kill the main lead to make your story worth a shit. Just give it to a decent writer for once instead of animu wannabe writers.

Another person who mis-read Bebpo's post. Bebpo didn't say killing your characters is required to have a story worth a shit. Not every jrpg has to have a lead dying, however, it's nice to be surprised every now and then. In FFT, it felt like no one was safe. In FFX, Tdius sacrifies himself for love and to conquer his fears of his father. In Digital Devil Saga 2, I was on the eduge of my seat. Characters dying isn't a necessity, however it is a wonderful way to show how close a bond the player has with the characters and characters shouldn't feel like they're unbeatable super heroes. Bebpo continues by saying the larger problem ISN'T MAIN CHARACTERS DYING but MAIN CHARACTERS BEING BADLY WRITTEN.

Bebpo basically highlighted that XIII's cast was so shitty, that the entire party died and no one gave a shit. Which says a lot about its cast.

Jesus Christ.

You don't need to kill the main lead to make your story worth a shit. Just give it to a decent writer for once instead of animu wannabe writers.

I'm never mad with any of my bore bros, himu. It's the internet and it's 6 am and can't sleep or fap for shit.

But really, the problem lies with letting old dev dinosaurs write the story instead of hiring competent writers. Lost Odyssey is a prime example of this: why oh why make these beautiful short stories only to let the Gooch write the main story AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH

Tell it. TELL IT.

That made me angry beyond words. Lost Odyssey had the making of something special. Why couldn't he hire the writer who did the short stories to write the entire game? Is it hubris? Or what?

and bebs all i was saying is that there is no reason to kill a character off other than for the sake of drama and rpg have plenty of that,in fact they have too much, way too much so saying that we need more dead characters is wrong no matter if it's in the ending,in the middle or in the beginning
