Just remember, Sony says and shows a lot of things. Jack Tretton was all about some PS3 game sharing early on.

The only thing that concerns me after those ballsy statements and videos is that there's no coming back from this. If they hasn't so much as fine print regarding used games and DRM they will be gutted.

I think the fine print is THEY'RE not gonna require online DRM. They certainly won't stop publishers from requiring it.

They're making some pretty clear statements that would be hard to worm around with regards to whether or not publishers can use DRM.  I mean, I'm sure they can do it like Capcom did on PS3 if they want, but if they do it, they'll be going against the message.

they have done that before and Tretton is usually the suspect but with House, Yoshida, etc also along with the ride a switch would look really fucked up

They didn't make me do a bundle in-store. In fact, they couldn't even pre-order games yet. Just put the deposit down on the system and will get it all paid off next month. Then I'll pre-order BF4, AC4, and maybe Knack.

It won't be for long.  Hopium in me says 250 announcement tomorrow, with game downloads for people how payed 350 for the pos.  The Nintendo realist in me says 300 for the good sku, no more shitty sku, and a non-gameplay trailer of smash bros for your pleasure.

$300 sounds more likely than $250; a $250 cut would be the ultimate white flag, but then again after tonight who knows.

All they had to do was release a semi decent system, with a free XBL-esque rip off online system and an expansive Virtual Console. That's it. And they fucked it up.

The problem is they have nothing up the pipe for next year.  They delayed pikmem to cover this winter but they have fuck all.  How can they not only convince people to pay 300 for old tech but also 300 for old tech that doesn't have any games?

Assuming there's no catch with PS4 promise, I don't know about that. Game stores are going to push the system that doesn't take a cut of their used game profits, and there's way less hassle involved for the user. MS avoided any mention of that stuff at their conference, while Sony made it a point of attack and discussion. Now it's gonna make the news. Word will get around that Xbone One is the system to avoid.

Missed the conference, saw the news in this thread, gonna catch up on the software announcements/vids.

But man,

$399 for most powerful console, no drm bullshit, 500gig HDD and it EVEN COMES WITH AN HDMI CABLE (no nickle diming crap)

wow, I never would have guessed that from Sony.  Thank god for the $599 humbling they got last time.  It's given us the best damn deal for a launch system in a while.


Now the only question is if Region free.  If it has that, I'm gonna be dancing a fire.


Also did they announce a release date?  My Amazon pre-order says Dec 31st, 2013 which is obviously placeholder.  I'm a little worried about Xbone beating them to the punch for the holiday season since that's about Xbone's only chance to get ahead for the first six months.  Plus I thought PS4 was further along in production, so hoping it's an early November date as well.
