Ya I'm waiting a year or two.  The thing is PC gaming seems like its been on the rise thought this whole gen.  My biggest take away has been that this gen is still pretty great and PC gaming is more than adequate for my needs.

Really the only games I'll be playing on the PS4 are probably 1st party and downloadable titles. The former won't have any kind of DRM and the latter will be no different than the current setup.

PC will be my main AAA and indie system next gen. PS4 will be my Japanese game system for the ones that don't hit pc as well as media box. 3ds will be my alternative gaming system.

Sure, you'll punch in your code on the Origin servers - only instead of just MP it locks up the whole game. You'll have to log in to Origin to play. The next guy will have to buy a new key code to unlock the full game, or the disc will probably be a glorified demo.

They just clarified on GT. Third parties can do online passes, etc, but the platform (system) won't restrict anything.

So if EA wants to block used games; they need to bring back the online pass.

PC gaming has and will continue to have DRM like this.  Ubisoft tried to do always online back in 2009 with single player games.  PC is obviously the best choice, and the deep discounts mitigate these problems, but understand the context.  There's no safe haven.

I'll end up playing most of my games on PC, but those rare weeaboo games that don't come to PC, that's why I want a console.  I don't expect those to use DRM.  Unless they do, and in that case...shit.  Atlus did region lock that one game.

It's going to be interesting to see how this plays out, especially for EA. I don't see Origin as being a huge deal considering most people who buy Madden/BF4/etc play online, but there are obviously a lot of people who will be left out. The huge PR backlash and Sony's entrance into the discussion might change a lot of publisher's views. By next holiday season.

I'd say it's getting easier and easier though.

Assassin's Creed is a pretty "wait and see what the suckers who bought this version say about it" game. Same for Watch Dogs, since it's an early next gen Ubi title and they almost never get it right the first time. Ubi will release the occasional good game like every 4 years. In recent times that was Rayman Origins and Farcry 3 and FC3: BD.

All Activison has is Call of Duty, that's worth of note for the most part.

EA has screwed the pooch with many big name franchises recently like NBA Live, SimCity, SSX, Dragon Age 2. That leaves titles like Madden ( unless you're into that) and FIFA ( unless you're into that, which I am) and maybe The Sims if you're into that like I am.

EA/Ubi/Acti rarely release must have titles. Their shit is easy to avoid.

Publishers like 2k, Bethesda, Sega, and Square Enix however.

Yet the substance of Sony’s riposte to Microsoft is almost less important than the fact that they made all these announcements with humor and swagger. Stories are circulating about an interview Jack Tretton did today with GameTrailers, in which he allegedly confirmed DRM would be allowed on the PlayStation 4 after all. Most outlets are running with the story of Tretton confirming DRM is "up to third parties," bringing the PS4 more in line with the Xbox One than we thought. However, what Tretton said really didn't deviate from Sony's existing policies.

Basically ... no need to panic yet.

"The DRM decision is going to have to be answered by the third parties, it's not something we're going to control, or dictate, or mandate, or implement," said Tretton, essentially describing the system already in place for the PlayStation 3.

Right now, on the PS3, publishers can choose to input online passes, or could theoretically toss in multiplayer features that require legitimate copies to work. Publishers can also choose whether or not to region-lock their discs -- most choose not to. Tretton is basically confirming all of that is still possible.

The major difference between PS4 and Xbox One, of course, is that Sony hasn't made it easier for corporations to control the behavior of their customers, because the PS4 doesn't tie your copies to your accounts, or initiate checks to scrub traded game data off your system. Basically, Microsoft designed the Xbox One to make it as easy as flipping a switch to eradicate any possibility of sharing your games, while Sony is maintaining its policy of this current generation.

While some outlets are already claiming Sony's gone back on its word, I'm yet to see that. All I see is Sony keeping things how they were, and making it easier for us to identify which individual publishers are going to be total dicks about this. Sony, apparently, won't be one of them -- first party games are said to not use DRM, full stop.
