So, no price drop? Er, ok. I wasted my $350 already. For the health of the system, it'd be nice if they could get more out there.

Then again, this is Nintendo: all the usual iterations, trickle of third party. Health, schmealth.

Still, this turd needs to sell to someone. Need more Lego City. Grind out those sequels.

Pikmin = August 4
The Wonderful 101  = September 15
Wind Waker HD = October?
Donkey Kong Country: Bahama Juice = November?
Super Mario 3D World = December?

Was pretty pleased with the showing - nothing that truly made me holy shit (aside from X and Mega Man being in Smash)... but I loved 3DLand (favorite of all the 3D Marios actually), DKC Returns and Bayonetta... and I'm sure the sequels will also be great. I think that out of all the conferences, Nintendo by far had the most games I'm interested in.

It's always smarter to wait.

I think I'll get a PS3 this year. Would be really nice if it had one final price drop to make the SuperSlim's shitty design go down easier.

Guys, it's either a new Donkey Kong or new Metroid Prime.

TAKE YOUR PICK

Do you mean to tell me that Metroid Prime wouldn't have been a more hyped game and the better alternative? Sand nucca please.

You wanna know why we're getting a new DKCR and not a new Metroid Prime? You really wanna know?

Because DKCR sold far more than the best selling Metroid Prime. And probably cost a lot less.

Andy, let's be real:

New DK looks great and will be great, that much is basically guaranteed. But are you going to tell me that disappointment isn't warranted considering Retro are capable of so much more? Or that DK couldn't have had another great game if they got Next Level or some other good developer to try their hand at it?

DKC Tasty Breeze is just the calibre I expect of Retro. Platformers are not an inherently "lesser" genre which is what's been implied by the whiners. For me, platformers are first class.

We got three frigging Metroid games out of Retro, two  of which most people think are meh, and people are whining after a DKC trailer that goddamn good? Those people can go to hell for having no taste and for devaluing 2D platformers in the 2000's first place.

EmCee argued this point, and I understand it. However, I think this bit of good old fashioned horse sense is applicable in terms of viewing Nintendo as a software publisher, but perhaps misses the point when it comes to also seeing Nintendo as a platform promoter. If the name if the game is just funding software that provides a solid return on investment, then why in the world are they funding Bayonetta 2? Now, it's possible that its partially completed status meant they could lock it up for a song, but my gut feeling is that they probably won't make a ton of money on it, but it helps them in securing an exclusive in an area where they are weak. I think Retro is capable of something similar with something not Donkey Kong-related, even if I concede the point that Donkey Kong Country is the safer play in regards to selling software.

No, they're saying it's disappointing that it's not up to "Retro's pedigree." That trailer looked up there with the best in the genre.

People whining it won't push the sales needle should be in a different thread.

It's not just about pushing the sales needle. It's also about diversifying the software output. Nintendo isn't lacking in mascot platformers, and Retro has proven in the past that they can make something outside of Nintendo's wheelhouse.

DKC U looks like a great platformer, but I think people are looking for a system seller like Wii Fit U, Galaxy 3, new realistic Zelda, etc.

Nintendo needs to be dropping megatons and price cuts, and people are disappointed that they aren't bringing it yet.

Didn't most of the staff involved with Metroid Prime depart Retro anyways?

It continues to boggle my mind how Nintendo keeps Metroid around when it's historically sold rather poorly compared to other Nintendo franchises, but then again Pikmin 3 is coming out this year.

Other than the bomb that was Other M, the Metroid franchise has sold just fine. It's Nintendo Mad Men. You keep it going as a statement to your talent superiority. It's never going to beat super popular mainstream stuff, but it's buzzworthy enough to garner you attention and relevancy.

Today's interview was not an interview. It was a direct attack against Reggie.

Geoff came in there with ONE OBJECTIVE...

He tried to get Reggie to show disappointment at the Wii U.

I should mention that when the 3DS was being released, Reggie was far from my favorite COO. But I give him Mad Props for conducting himself like he did today.

But right now, I have lost so much respect for Geoff. I wish for once that arrogant jerk can act like a god damn OBJECTIVE reporter and give some love for once. Yes Nintendo Wii U launch was not as strong as I WISH it to be. Yes, I recognized the fact that NINTENDO is not a perfect company. But what company is?

The thing that bothered me the most, is that Geoff  was pushing his believe that the Wii U has no , that's a big fat 0, 3rd party support. Which is a false statement. Yes the Wii U has room to grow in terms of acquiring 3rd party support.  But Geoff should stop being a hater of Nintendo and appreciate it for what it is doing right.

Me, I am not impressed with the XBox One DRM and $$$, but I thought their games were fantastic.  PS4... Great system but for me, not a whole a lot of games that got me excited. (maybe FF XV). But I bet that system will perform great and entertain a whole lot of people.

I cant wait to learn more about SSB for the Wii U and love my Wii U, I may pick up a PS4 soon as well.

See Geoff, this is how you provide opinion without looking like a douche bag. You are not fooling anyone. Please stop acting like a prick and show some love.

I wanted Geoff to slap Reggie every time he smacked the back of his hand into the other, saying "its about the gaaames" over and over. If its about the games where are yours aside from fucking platformers and re-treads?

I wish I could talk directly to Reggie to tell him how excited and interested I am in Quantum Break, Titanfall, Mirrors Edge 2, and a dozen other games he's failing to bring to his platform. I'm not saying I expect XBone and PS4 games on the Wii U, but I expect better variety in genres, and for Nintendo to at least try and have one decent third party partnership / coup outside of W101, Sonic Lost Worlds and Bayonetta... I'm glad those games are coming, but they need more.

The stuff they've shown looks good, and I'll buy a depressing amount of it, but I don't think its going to improve things for the system. If Reggie REALLY has the confidence he was trying to display to Geoff in that interview, NOA are living in cloud cuckoo land.

I liked 3D Land, but it's probably best not to presume that it's universally loved, as it clearly isn't. And even among those that do enjoy it, it's probably not best to assume that everyone is on board with that as the vision for console Mario platformers.

Yes.  3D Land is excellent, but the point is that Nintendo created a certain expectation that 3D World doesn't live up to.  Like, the entire thing, and Wii U line up as a whole, comes off as creatively bankrupt.  For its blunders with the Gamecube, at least Nintendo took some chances back then.  To be fair, the 3DS is doing great and another story entirely.

And I'm sure 3D World will be great.  My main concern with its quality is the multiplayer.  When your game needs to accommodate four players, you end up with more space, larger platforms, etc.  Motorcycle versus a minivan.
