dat new stage demo

http://www.gamespot.com/e3/killzone-shadow-fall-e3-stage-demo-6409831/

Looking somewhat cross-gen. I'm not surprised that they thought the PS4 was gonna have half RAM. But, seeing as how it's gonna launch soon i doubt they'll retool the graphics that much. Still, looks very very nice.

i see them copying resistance with that auger :krs

Gamersyde is known for converting 30 fps vids to 60 fps interpolated.

Still looks good regardless. But I never learned how to play FPS on a gamepad, so not really interested.

New models look great and I'm still hyped for this game. I hope aliasing from rendering them in real-time at a lower resolution won't make them look that much worse.

footage, looking fluid and fast. Wondering if this is sped up in some way or something, because it looks like 60fps to me.

apparently the goal is for multiplayer to be 60fps while the single player is 30.  weird.  only other game I can think of that does that is bioshock 2 on PC where it locks multiplayer to 30fps.

But I think it was a one time thing after Killzone 3 and looking at Shadowfall's gameplay.

KZ has always been a mediocre franchise.

Yes it always looks damm pretty, but the base game? Always lousy. The smartest thing Sony has done is make it a launch title. As it's that one game that most PS4 owners will have.

there's also a good quality video of mp at 60fps.  nice looking game.  it's a shame that all game videos are uploaded on youtube these days and stuck at low bitrate, 30fps.

hard to get excited by the multiplayer footage.  it looks like standard cod, halo4, same ol' business.  there's a reason why titanfall makes an impression.  otoh, single player looked surprisingly great in recent videos.  I'm open to buying it now, when before I waved it off as another killzone.

but...

it's like they wanted to make one of those kitsch Halo commercials and fell flat on their faces.

middling reviews comin in

edit: reading some blurbs, it has the problem I thought it would.  those open levels aren't the norm.  it creeps back into the same boring pattern of most shooters.

Quote
After years of shooters in which all your targets lie ahead, this open battleground - clearly heavily influenced by multiplayer map design - takes some getting used to, especially when hitched to Killzone's typically no-nonsense difficulty. Once you are used to it, it's thrilling and instantly replayable, as you seek out new routes and alternative encounters. But Shadow Fall never throws up anything like it again.

There are flashes of this philosophy here and there throughout the game: a scattering of sneaky vents, secret vantage points and open plazas. A hostage situation at the end of the fourth chapter, set in a circular building with multiple entry points and destructible walls, is brilliantly realised. But true tactical options soon dry up, and levels quickly devolve from non-linear spaces into elaborate, broad corridors - and then into simple, narrow ones. There are a lot of rusting gangways. Eventually, you realise that you haven't even thought about using that lovely zipline for a level and a half.

Yeah, I don't do multiplayer so I care about single player a whole lot.

Anyways who knows, maybe this is the generation Gorilla comes in to their own.

I'm the same since i hardly give a shit about multiplayer in these games but the ones really eyeing the single player with crazy expectations are the fanboys since they will need some ammo imo. Its just which side will get the salvo lol.

As for myself i'll check out the single to see what its about with the hype levels in check.

honestly, the open sections of Killzone SDF look great.  that's why I'm bummed it devolved into corridors and rooms.  coincidentally, that's how I felt about perfect dark zero.  the sneaking around the nightclub :bow2 everything else :piss2

Killzone looks really good graphically and artistically. Thats kind of the only reason to play a Killzone game. So as long as it's not broken and plays fine I don't see the big deal.

Launch titles getting sub-par reviews is not really that surprising. Did anyone expect Knack to do well? Does anyone care? No one did up until now, the train of thought just seemed to be "oh here's the PS4 and it comes with these games.......................................................................and this thing called Knack".

The review scores are underwhelming considering the pretty graphics, positive vibes in the press about the PS4, and the inflation given to exclusives and half-decent launch times.

Just my opinion but I always thought this was one franchise built on the smoke and false hype that good graphics alone bring. From the first one to this one. I think Guerilla is very competent on the technical side but not on the actual game side. They remind me of Factor 5

4/10 from Jeremy Parish @ USGamer, LOL.

http://www.usgamer.net/articles/killzone-shadow-fall-review-setting-a-low-bar-for-ps4-shooters

Wasn't Parish a sfag hero this gen?

Nah, he's a jrpg/retro gaming fan.

His review's alright, but he's basically reviewing Killzone for the story (looks like he went in thinking "I hate shooters and western gaming, but maybe Killzone will be different and change my mind; nope, it didn't").  Apparently most of the low reviews are only reviewing the SP campaign and the biggest flaws are that it's the same old generic FPS with prettier graphics.   The few reviews that have commented on the MP seem to like it quite a bit.

Basically it sounds like Killzone.

Don't forget the FREE PS4 + dozens of games handed out last week to the press.

Game would get 2/10 if launched a year later.
It would no doubt be a better made game if it came out a year later. It's a launch title, I don't think I've played any launch title that stands up to games not forced to meet that deadline.

Killzone's main mission is to look pretty and work and it seemingly does. Except its come out in a year where reviewers got tired of CoD type story modes all of a sudden.

I bet if this game came out last year it would be 9s all around.

Really trying to like this because, well, I bought it. I ended up not liking the SP much and multiplayer causes me to spontaneously say "what a shitty game" out loud. I don't know if it even is that shitty, but why do I jump in a game only to find out that my team is stuck in spawn because, hey, in a shooter in 20fucking14 you can still be locked into a spawn room. Because someone got a spawn beacon near our spawn and then someone else got a turret there. I thought we were done with that shit, but Guerrilla apparently disagreed. At least give me the option to get points for shooting my teammembers for being so shit as to get us here in the first place. I've had a fair share of good matches and when it works it's actually pretty neat, but the above and the sometimes real fishy hit detection (guessing it's because of lag issues) can suck tar and die.

I can not fucking believe I'm saying this in this day and age, but I'm actually excited about getting COD Ghosts tomorrow.

This game really wants to impress you with it's face animation. Which is funny because the faces don't look that great. I mean they are textured well and whatever, but it's not like they are animated great. Yet the game keeps doing the zoom on them. Like the father in the first chapter has an awkward fake fake smile thing going on.

And why did the middle age doctor have such a nicely formed ass? Why is the voice acting so bad? The writing so terrible?

This game is so strange.
