To be fair, it wasn't technically a crash and burn. DS and Wii were very successful. Wii U is bad, yes, but 3ds sales are increasing.

massive profits -> huge losses is realistically about as close to a crash and burn as you can get without literally torching things.

Why did Kaz get to stay on (nay, promoted) after Sony crashed and burned?

Also I really hope a developer succeeds Iwata, it was his best attribute IMO even though he was shaky as a business guy. Hopefully Vampauchi still has some sway about that.

I don't know about nescessity, but there was a position to fill and he hadn't fucked anything up monumentally, so he must've looked like a good fit.
